Billionaire Warren Buffett ready to take on Donald Trump

By CATHERINE LUCEY and ALAN SUDERMAN

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — Billionaire investor Warren Buffett says he'll do whatever it takes to defeat Donald Trump — including escorting people to the polls himself.

Campaigning with Hillary Clinton in Nebraska Monday, Buffett savaged Trump's business record, questioning his bankruptcies and asking why the Republican presidential candidate won't release his tax returns. The so-called "Omaha Oracle" then announced a new campaign called "Drive 2 Vote," designed to bring out voters in Nebraska's second congressional district, which offers a single Electoral College vote to the district winner.

"I will take at least 10 people to the polls who would otherwise have difficulty getting there," said Buffett, adding that he had reserved a 32-seat trolley for the day with a goal of getting the highest-percentage turnout of any congressional district in the country. "Let's give America a civics lesson."

Nebraska is one of two states that assign some electoral votes based on the results within congressional districts. While the state is Republican overall, President Barack Obama won a vote here in 2008 in the more liberal district where Clinton appeared Monday, which includes Omaha and the suburbs. The boundaries have since been redrawn to make the district less blue.

The Midwestern stop came amid a clash between Trump and a Muslim-American family who spoke against him at the Democratic National Convention. Trump responded by attacking Khizr and Ghazela Kahn, whose son served in the U.S. Army and was killed in Iraq in 2004.

Buffett called Trump's comments "the final straw," arguing that his family had not sacrificed like military families.

Buffett, who endorsed Clinton last year, was the latest in a series of business leaders attacking Trump as Clinton seeks to woo moderate and independent voters. Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban campaigned with Clinton over the weekend, and former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg delivered a searing indictment of Trump's economic proposals during the Democratic National Convention.

Before several thousand people gathered at an Omaha high school, Buffett challenged Trump to agree to a meeting where they would both release their tax returns. He also said that after Trump listed his casino and hotel company on the New York Stock Exchange in 1995, investors lost money, even though "in 1995 when he offered this company, if a monkey had thrown a dart at the stock page, the monkey on average would have made 150 percent."

Buffett repeated long-held assertions that the tax code favors the wealthy, which Clinton echoed, pledging to pay for new programs through more taxes on the rich. Clinton also continued the assaults on Trump, criticizing him for making products overseas. She promised to "support the kind of small businesses that Donald Trump has consistently stiffed."

Clinton enthusiastically received Buffett's plan to get out voters and upped the ante. She said that if the district has the highest percentage of voters and if she wins, then she'll come back soon "and Warren and I will dance in the streets of Omaha together."

Amid cheers Clinton added, "Maybe if we're really lucky he'll wear his Elvis costume again."

Come on, Donald. Buffet has challenged you to divulge your tax returns together with him. He is also under audit but has no problem showing his. Why not you, Donald???

Also, looks like sanity will prevail in the end:

Trump what are you hiding?

That's the big question, isn't it? I'm sure his tax return would contain many interesting things.

How pathetic is it that a man (well, sort of) who led a campaign that demanded President Obama make public his birth certificate refuses to make public his tax return!!!

I hope Trump never releases his tax returns as it seems to be driving his opponents crazy :D. His supporters don't care about them.

This is why I wonder about the judgement and intelligence of Trump supporters.

While it is desirable and admirable for a Presidential candidate to have military experience, it is not a requirement.

At least Trump has not fabricated experiences of being under fire while conducting their duties as the non-military background H. Clinton has done.

Bills closest encounter to combat action was when being questioned about his using young female political interns for personal amusement.

The issue isn't about military experience but rather Trump's claim that he doing business somehow constituted a sacrifice.

Semantics.  In the words of B. Clinton: "When is the word "is", is?"

I can understand Buffet not seeing eye to eye with Trump. I think many people have this problem. But then your only other choice is Clinton, who doesn't strike me as being too strong either.

I am just glad I don't have to choose between them.

Buffet says (in response to something Trump said recently) "that was the last straw"

Well, I guess that proves I'm smarter than Warren Buffet, because the 'last straw' for me, which proved what a dufus Trump is, happened years ago - before Trump even declared he was running for prez.  Why did it take Buffet so long to realize what a dangerous liar Trump is?  I thought Buffet was so smart.   .....maybe just slow on the uptake.

Note: please disregard the reference to Rod Gold, below.  I tried deleting the window, but couldn't figure how to do it in the newfangled configuration of Thai Visa.

I've always wondered why all the yanks I know agree that W Bush was an idiot yet they voted for him.

I really think Americans don't know what the hell they are talking about when it comes to politics.

His supporters should. They really should. Don't you want to see the bullshit level? They'll (taxes) eventually come out and you know it's going to be a disaster. Let's see em. Face up to it now, he's a bullshitter.

Doesn't like the debate schedule. Imagine Trump in a real debate with HRC? I have trouble imagining it. He knows nothing. President? He's completely unprepared to be the next dog catcher.

This election isn’t just Democrat vs. Republican. It’s normal vs. abnormal. 5555555555555555555555555555555

Ironic you would talk about DT lying when we've got 35 years of hillary and bill lying starting with the Watergate investigation. She's NEVER told the truth about ANYTHING!

DUH! Perhaps they don't "all think he was an idiot" as you claim! Given the alternatives, there clearly was no choice just as there is in this upcoming election. COMMIES VS. CAPITALISM. I'll take the latter every time.

Trump's fans don't want The Divider to release his tax statements for the same reasons Trump won't:  Trump's tax forms will certainly reveal some things he's is trying to hide.  He said months ago, "I would love to release my tax forms."

Boomer's response: Is that the biggest lie he's told in the past year?   I don't know.  It's hard to tell with Trump, because he lies every time he opens his pie hole and emits sounds.

re; debates:  Will Trump do what he did during the Republican debates (not counting the one he chickened-out from attending)?  He may try to shout down HRC whenever she makes a good point.  He did it successfully with his Republican opponents, so he may try the bullying/interrupting tactic with HRC.   If the moderators are wimps, they'll allow it to happen.  If the moderators have spines, they will tell Trump to wait his turn, so both candidates get roughly equal times to speak.

Knowing Trump, he will take the mega-negative bully route, as he does every time.  The most amazing part, to me, is it actually works to garner supporters for him!  That says a lot about the American psyche (and it ain't pretty).  One of the most vociferous anti-Trumpsters I know (Cenk) who has spoken out forcefully against Trump (on his wildly popular online news show "Young Turks") .....actually thinks Trump will win in November.   That's scary, because Cenk is a very smart guy.   Perhaps a measure of him saying that is he's hoping to prod lazy voters into voting, rather than sitting on their fat lazy butts on election day.
