19 redshirt leaders surrender to acknowledge charge

BANGKOK: -- Nineteen redshirt leaders and members today reported to the Crime Suppression Division (CSD) police to acknowledge charge of defying the military junta's order.

The redshirt leaders and members, all in black T-shirts, were led by Jatuporn Phromphan, president of the United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD).

They were charged for defying the order of the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) banning political assembly of more than five people after they held a press conference at the former Imperial Lard Prao shopping centre to declare the establishment of their own anti referendum cheat centre.

Jatuporn said he was relieved after the government did not invoke Section 44 of the interim charter to detain them same as those detained for distorting the draft charter.

However he warned that he and all colleagues would stage a fast if they are mistreated or Section 44 is used to detain them.

Smart timing for the referendum. This will be in the news for days into the referendum weekend etc.

Jatuporn continue to live in his utopia

However he warned that he and all colleagues would stage a fast if they are mistreated or Section 44 is used to detain them.

I hope to hell they do and starve to death.

Maybe a 'fast' is a run fast? Anyways, these men are victims of a cruel, oppressive regime. It's that simple.

Shame on them! They took advantage of it and organised another political meeting with more than 5 people in front of the police station! ;)

IN Egypt the president declared the Muslim brothers terrorist, the red shirts are the same

Remind us again, who elected this clown president of the UDD? How many cases his he out on bail for? Is threatening and encouraging others to commit acts of terrorism and arson not suggestive of a cruel oppressive regime?

UDD - what an ironic name. Not one single leader or officer elected!

I don't know about the rest of them but Jatuporn could stand to drop a few KGs, maybe a fast isn't a bad idea. I suspect it wouldn't last long though.

Another silent club

They seem to have ditched the red shirts.

That simple? Really?  Where were you during the seige of Bangkok in 2010?  Dream on in your rose-tinted spectacles

Whereas the current government, its leaders and "legislative assembly" are absolute paragons of the democratic process......

Cruel... oppressive... Is that really true?

Say what you want about him, he has a far better idea of how to manage public opinion than the Junta. Turning arrest into a dramatic political statement days before the referendum vote. Priceless!
