If Trump is supposedly "woefully unfit", why are we seeing a resounding prediction that he's gonna win! :smile:

Bloomberg reported:

In the betting markets at least, Donald Trump is crushing Hillary Clinton.

So far this week, the Republican candidate has outshone his rival in terms of both the number and volume of wagers, according to figures revealed yesterday by Ireland’s largest bookmaker, Paddy Power Betfair Plc. Just shy of 100,000 euros ($111,000) in bets came in, with 91 percent of them for Trump.

People who misrepresent oddsmaking for whatever reason or purpose need to be corrected, then taught. Today this poster only has time to make corrections and clarifications.

 

Betting trends do not set the odds. Last minute betting trends reflect that the bookmakers are minimising their potential losses by boosting the candidate who is behind and expected to lose.

 

Here are the current odds that include everything in total, to include the trends of the moment:

 

The general election in the United States, Tuesday November 8, 2016

Wm Hill oddsmaker in London: President of the United States, Winning Gender:

 

Female to be elected Potus has odds of 1-3, which is the probability percentage of 75%

Male to be elected Potus has odds of 9-4, which converts to the probability percentage of 30.7%

This is a first time ever category of oddsmaking.

In Las Vegas this morning, we have (yesterday evening there)....

 

Winning Party Potus:

 

Democratic Party has American odds of -415 which converts to the probability percentage of 80.2% to win 

Republican Party has American odds of +275 which converts to the probability percentage of 27.0% to win.

This means that for Potus the trailing Republican Party to come even with the leading Democratic Party, there must be a change of a total of 690 basis points. That would necessitate a shift in the popular vote of 6.9%.

 

The not-the-same but roughly equivalent European odds:

 

Democratic Party to win the Office of Potus has odds of 2-7, which convert to the probability of 77.7%

(Yesterday's European odds for the Democratic party to win Potus were 2-5 which convert to 71.4%)

 

Republican Party to win the Office of Potus has odds of 5-2 or 28.5%.

(Yesterday's European odds for the Republican party to win were 9-4, or the percentage probability of  30.7%)

Winner of the Election to be Potus November 8, 2016:

 

Hillary Clinton has American odds in Las Vegas of -300 which convert to the percentage probability of 75%

Donald Trump has American odds in Las Vegas of +200 which convert to the percentage probability of 33%

(In these particular American odds, 300 units get you 100; conversely, 100 units get you 200.)

 

In European odds, the predominant odds for Potus are:

 

Hillary Clinton is at 1-3 or the percentage of 75%

Donald Trump is at 5-2 or the percentage of 28.5%

There is always a flurry of late or last minute odds buying on the final weekend before the general election. It's sort of like last minute Chrismas shopping. Except in bookmaking, the oddsmakers want more action placed with the person who is behind so they can reduce their potential losses on their payout (maximise profit). So they provide incentives to bet on the loser. That's why we say there's a sucker born every minute.

Fox News apologizes for falsely reporting that Clinton faces indictment.

Fox News anchor Bret Baier apologized Friday for reporting that federal investigators had determined that Hillary Clinton’s private email server had been hacked and that an investigation would lead to an indictment of Clinton after the election.

In fact, Baier said, after checking with his sources, there is no evidence at this time for either statement.
