Public approval of draft charter prompts world community to have confidence in Thailand: Deputy premier

BANGKOK, 9 August 2016 (NNT) – Deputy Prime Minister Thanasak Patimapakorn assured that a public approval of the draft constitution in Sunday's referendum will prompt the world community to have confidence in Thailand.

He said he believed the approval of the charter will prompt the world community to have confidence in this country while the government is pursuing its road map while many parties agreed to provide cooperation.

He expressed admiration for anti-charter activists who accepted the decision of the majority voters and would not put pressure on the government to follow the road map.

He said that possibilities of the next general election being postponed would depend on the Constitution Drafting Committee but, he said, such delays would make no serious impact.

Sorry Dep PM, most of the world doesn't give Thailand a second thought. He talks about the world now having confidence in Thailand and then mentions there is a possibility of the general election being postponed. That doesn't inspire confidence at all!

Didn't take long to start beating the drum and on behalf of the world too  !

Personally I haven't seen any comments,  favourable or otherwise,   from outside LoS but that's not to say there haven't been.

All's well,   as ever,  in the junta's own little world and the truth of the international community's reaction is most likely found in the cables being sent from the various diplomatic missions back to their respective Foreign Ministries.

Ah, it didn't take long for hints about postponing an election to start!

And why not I say. We've had a vote. It proves that the public trust, are happy with and have confidence in the government. There are after all far more important things to be getting on with, now that the world has confidence in Thailand....

Sorry Thailand, irrespective of what  you think were voting for you have now got military rule in one way shape or form for years to come unless something unexpected occurs.

The rest of the world knows that but they really don't care unless the guns come out.

It is quite possible that Thai's in the tourism industry here will be looking towards the blossoming Myanmar tourist industry for work in the not too distant future as the former Burma revels in the continued dismantling of years of military oppression and a new found democracy.

"Speaking at a press briefing, State Department spokeswoman Elizabeth Trudeau also raised concern about the drafting process of the proposed constitution, saying it was "not inclusive" and lacked "open debate" before it was adopted".

She certainly don't sound confident.
