Avoiding Visa Exempt stamp at BKK for non connecting flight

Featured Replies

I hope to changeover in BKK (arriving from UK at 7am next month)  for a flight to Phnom Penh. I would rather avoid getting a visa exempt stamp for a few hours whilst I check in and change flights. I will be arriving back in Thailand the following week. I hope I can do all of this without going through immigration, by checking in before immigration at Airline desk (Bangkok Airways). I will only have cabin luggage.

Hoping this sounds ok...any problems?

Is there a better easier solution?

Thanks a lot for any help.

No need to go through immigration, only through security, to get your boarding pass for the Phnom Penh flight at the airside transfer counter. See this page on the website of BKK airport:

http://www.suvarnabhumiairport.com/en/969-international-to-international-no-boarding-pass

The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place

Just make sure the 2 flights are in/out the same airport...as there are 2 in Bkk.

As long as same airport - and as long as you can check in all the way through in the UK (or else web check in for the Phnom Penh lag) then you are fine.

If it is Suvanabhumi airport, plenty of diversions in the transit area, including Thai massage, restaurants, shops, free wifi etc

As said, if leaving from the same airport and just cabin luggage it shouldn't be a problem since you can stay air-side, and no need to go through customs or immigration.

Thanks a lot for the helpful replies.

That makes it clear.

If the two flights are on different PNRs/tickets, then the OP may have trouble connecting on Bangkok Airways, even though they don't have any hold-luggage to transfer.  PH have got much more strict since March-2016 about this !

http://www.bangkokair.com/pages/view/separate_ticket

" For INBOUND travel, Bangkok Airways will not accept through check both passenger and bags from International/domestic flight to connect with any PG flight in case of any two separate tickets issued.  Passenger must claim the luggage and recheck in at Bangkok Airways check in counter to obtain PG boarding pass. For those traveling with International flight, passenger must also need to clear customs and immigration.  "
