Thailand: Severe floods in northern provinces claim 1 life, displaces thousands

By Asian Correspondent Staff

BANGKOK: -- PERSISTENT rain over the last few days has left large sections of Thailand’s northern provinces awash, with floodwaters so far killing one and displacing thousands of residents.

According to The Bangkok Post, the overflowing of the Nan and Yom rivers on Monday forced the closure of schools and evacuation of several hundred houses.

The waters also swept away farm animals, and claimed the life of 49-year-old Prasit Wangsan in Nan’s Pua district. The paper’s report said Prasit was killed when he ventured out to inspect the situation, and ended up getting swept up in floodwaters.
