BANGKOK: -- Six electric car manufacturers yesterday entered agreement with the state-owned PTT Plc to cooperate to increase electric vehicle (EV) charging stations to 20 by next year from the current four stations.

The signing of memorandum of understanding (MOU) was presided over by Energy Minister Gen Anantaporn Kanchanarat at PTT station in Crystal Park on Chaiyapruek road in Nonthaburi province.

The six car companies are BMW, Mercedes Benz, Mitsubishi, Nissan, Porches, and Volvo.

Under the cooperation to promote the use of electric vehicles in the country, the ministry expected to see 1.2 million electric vehicles running on streets in the country by the next 20 years or in 2036.

This will help save the use of petrol by 30%.

Under the cooperation, two EV stations will be built this year and additional 14 EV stations by next year, raising total EV stations to 20.

This is the best 6 (major) manufacturers can do for the whole of Thailand - rubbish  :bah:

they sign agreements every couple years to put the cables under ground and basically nothing happens. i am starting to wonder if these signed agreements are every actually implemented.

the big question is how many EV cars are available by these manufacturers? BMW has the I8 and I3, Porsche has the Panamera - all well out of reach from the middle incomes... these EV stations frankly are a waste of money if manufacturers can't sell a budget friendly EV car.
