Beach time? Thai officials mull four-day holiday in September

Since Thailand’s tourism income is sure to suffer from the series of bombingsin several popular beach destinations last week, the desperate government is considering giving us a long weekend next month so that we can go on vacation and spend some money.

Loei court issues arrest warrant for Dhammachayo

LOEI: -- The Loei Provincial Court has issued a warrant for the arrest of Phra Dhammachayo or Phra Thepyarn Mahamunee on charges of encroachment and destruction of forests in national forest reserves, said Pol Col Nitipat Thawatvichien, deputy commander of Loei provincial police, on Tuesday.

Amnesty International urges members to demand release of two political activists

BANGKOK: -- London-based Amnesty International has urged its members throughout the world to send letters to Prime Minister Prayut Chan-ocha urging him to put an end to criminal proceedings against and to unconditionally release two political activists held on charges of inciting unrest for having in their possession documents critical of the draft constitution.

Wrongfully detained suspects will be entitled to compensation

BANGKOK: -- Suspects who are held in detention during the enquiry process on charges which are eventually dropped by the prosecutor will be entitled to compensation from the state of an average of 500 baht a day for the duration of the detention under a recent announcement of the Justice Ministry, Justice Minister Paiboon Kumchaya disclosed on Tuesday.

PM orders full support for flood victims in North

Hua Hin back to normal as authorities continue pursuit of bombers

Education Ministry finds fund dispersal issues

  

BANGKOK, 17 August 2016 (NNT) – The Ministry of Education has detected funds earmarked for assisting primary level school students being used to pay school water and electricity bills and has moved to have the Office of Basic Education (OBEC) more clearly distinguish funding to ensure spending is as intended.
