My two month Thai visa expires on the 21st, which is Sunday. I want to get a seven day extension in Bangkok but if I go on Friday, I am already losing two days on it. I assume they are not open on Saturday or Sunday? In which case I would like to go get the seven-day extension on Monday. But will they tell me I am too late for that? Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Your visas expiration date cannot be extended. Or do you mean the 60 day entry you got from a tourist visa is ending.

Unless you have done it already you can apply for a 30 day extension of the 60 day entry.

All extensions start from the date your current permit to stay ends. If you go this week the extension will start on Monday.

There is no 7 day extension. After applying for the 7 day extension and paying 1900 baht you are granted 7 days to leave the country after the application is denied.

Ubon Joe,
I have already had a 60 tourist day visa, and then renewed it for 30 days. So I have no more extensions available. I would like to stay in Bangkok for another week (from Sunday) before flying home. I didn't understand everything you wrote. Are you saying that if I go tomorrow to immigration in Bangkok and ask for a seven day exemption, that exemption will begin on the 21st (Sunday) when my 30 day extension expires? That would be great, as it would eliminate the stress and question about being granted a seven day exemption after a day late (at the immigration center).  If that's what you are saying, are you absolutely positive this is correct information?

You did not renew your visa. You obtained a 30 day extension of the 60 day permit to stay you got from your visa.

If you go early they will start the 7 days from Sunday when your current permit to stay ends. Added insurance they would do it that way would be to attached a copy of your ticket to the application.

I'm unclear again on part of what you are saying. what did you mean about "if you early"… Do you mean showing up early Monday morning or do you mean tomorrow morning? I don't know what you're referring to about insurance or a ticket. What kind of insurance are you talking about? And are you saying that it would be helpful to provide flight details when I apply? I have not booked a flight yet…

Thanks for your help.

Go was missing from my post (fixed now).

Going early means going before your permit to stay ends on Sunday. That would be tomorrow or Friday.

You could go to immigration on Monday and not pay an overstay fine of 500 baht since your permit to stay ends when they are closed. But if you were not able to do it on Monday it would be 500 baht for every day (for example Tuesday 1000 baht).

If you have a single entry tourist visa, your 30 dsy extension always starts the day your entry ends.

Threfore you can go up to a week esrly, and your 30 day exebsion will not start until your orifinal entry ends, you never lose any time by going early.

The 30 day extension is simply added on to your original stamped entry stay.

Joe, if I understand correctly, I can either go tomorrow or Friday or even Monday and can get a seven day exemption and in any case the seven days would start on Monday. As long as you are sure that is the case, all of that sounds like very great  news and provides good options. Were you earlier suggesting that having proof of plane ticket would be helpful or necessary?

Farang, I am only needing/allowed a further seven day exemption. Are you saying that the same rules/protocol apply to getting a 30 day extension?

It is up to you when you go. Fridays and Mondays are normally busy days at immigration.

Showing the ticket out is an option.

You would apply for a second extension. That would be denied and you would be given 7 days to leave the country. They don't start extensions from the day you apply. They are added onto your current permission to stay.

The expiration of the visa (the thing you got from an embassy or consulate) is irrelevant. When you entered the country you were given a 60 day permission to stay by immigrations and (apparently) you have since obtained a 30 day extension of that permission to stay.

" I have already had a 60 tourist day visa, and then renewed it for 30 days. "

He's already stated that he's obtained a 30 day extension. As the thread title suggests, he's asking about an additional 7 days.

OP I have done the 7 day extension (not really called a extension)  3 times in the last year

If you go on a Friday (or any day) you can go up to a week or 2 before,  the 7 days will start from the end of your permission to stay so if it's Sunday you will be stamped for 7 days after the Sunday

I would not go on the Monday, you will be on a overstay, i'm not sure if they would give you another  7 days, others will confirm

As I wrote earlier (post # 6) there will be no overstay or fine if he goes on Monday since immigration is closed when his permit to stay ends.

thank you again ubon joe. your input has been super helpful, as had the rest of you. joe, sorry if i’m being obnoxiously repetetive, but are you absolutely sure that they won’t mind me showing up on monday (a day after it expires)…they will still grant me 7 days to leave the country? i ask again, because monday would be much more convenient for me than tomorrow or friday.

yes, Suradit69, i failed to mention in the original post that indeed i’ve already had a 30 day extension….

No problem but you should consider taking care of any issues with your permit to stay more important than most other things.

got my 7 day extension today. thans  so much for all your help(s)!

Hi, may I ask you what you prepare to do 7 days extension? I'm currently on work permit and my ticket is 5 days after my workpermit expires, so I think if I can do 7days extension, that would be the best than I'm just risking the overstay.

I'm currently in Bangkok, please let me know what should I prepare. Thanks!
