PHUKET: -- Electricity supply to Phuket International Airport has been restored after the power was shut down by local electricity authority workers this morning (Aug 17) so they could upgrade high-voltage power lines in the area.

The electrical supply to Phuket’s critical transport portal went off at 9am, in direct accordance with the notice by the Phuket Provincial Electricity Authority (PPEA) to shut down power through to 4pm today in order for workers to safely carry out the upgrades.

Power was restored at 12:25pm, confirmed Airport Director Monrudee Gettuphan.

Even the first photo with title "Travellers wait amid the blackout in the main terminal at Phuket Airport, illuminated only by the skylight above"

shows lights on top of the counters.

The fourth photo on article shows lights illuminating the side of the staircase confirms there was some lights and thus backup generators.

Might have been battery back-up safety lights ??

Seriously. No back-up generator!!

Mustn't have been any candles available either?

I heard they play the Elton John song; Candle in the Wind.

They say the Farang's who were left in the dark; were happy with the song choice.

Hmmm,  I was there from 9 to 9:30 this morning and it was business as usual. All check-in counters, computers, x-ray, scanners, displays, signage, etc working as normal. Only one shop in the main terminal appeared to be without lights. If the power was out, it seems they had a good back-up system.

Matches the rest of the country being in the dark ages.

So, there was a power outage. Lights were working, everything else seemed to work as well.

Sounds like no fact checking, bad reporting as well no editorial work from the advertising platform the story came from. I guess the editors time was used to create the ever so selling headline.

There was also no further information about the backup generators what the Airport is most likely using. Either the question did not occur to the advertising platform workers minds, or the advertising platform didn't want ask or mention it.

The headline "Scheduled blackout plunges Phuket Airport into darkness" receives so much more clicks than "Phuket Airport used backup generators during scheduled power outage".

That advertising platform used to be a pretty good newspapers..

Yes, it's all about clicks and a more sensational headline makes more clicks ... and be damned with any truthful reportage.

Since Pnews does not report thai murders and beat downs, what else is there to report? Nothing ever happens here besides murders, fights and accidents.  Gotta find something to fill the paper with.
