Bombings won't stall peace talks, Army says

BANGKOK — Despite the recent coordinated attacks across seven southern provinces, the Royal Thai Army says it is committed to a peace dialogue with the separatist movement thought by many to be behind the attacks.

 

Stalled peace talks have been blamed by some analysts as a possible motive behind the deadly bombing spree that killed four on Thursday and Friday, the holiday season that marked Her Majesty the Queen’s Birthday and National Mother’s Day.

Agree. You can't stall what doesn't exist.

In April 2016 Prayut has made it clear that he won't hold even informal peace talks with the separatists until they stop acting like insurgents, "Thailand cannot negotiate with law breakers."

It worked for the IRA in the UK - after they bombed Bishopgate and Canary Wharf in the City of London's financial centre and reputedly caused £1 billion of damages the British Government talked and we got the Good Friday agreement and ultimately peace for the first time in nearly 30 years. The bombs are most certainly a chilling warning from southern separatists and the Thai government would be very foolish to ignore them .
