Thailand hopes to be leading country for investment in digital sector

BANGKOK, 18 August 2016 (NNT) - The Ministry of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) has expressed confidence that Thailand will become one of the world’s top countries for investment in the digital industry in the next 20 years.

ICT Minister Uttama Savanayana on Wednesday said all countries realized the importance of digital technology and the Thai government had policy to guide the Thai economy and society into the digital era. The government had developed 20-year national strategies with clear operational plans consistent with the “Thailand 4.0” master plan, said the minister

Mr. Uttama added that projects to develop ICT infrastructure had much progressed due to good cooperation from the general public and the private sector. The projects include the “Pracharat” Internet project aimed at providing high-speed Internet access for the people.

The ministry would urgently develop the work of the public sector with the use of digital systems and updating ICT laws in line with changes in the digital world, said the minister.

The ministry also set a goal for Thailand to be a leading country in ASEAN that uses the digital technology in moving the country forward.

Thailand should allow 100% foreigner ownership to technology startups and easy work permits in this sector. This will result in an immense increase of tax flow. Thailand's infrastructure and cheap living costs is already home of thousands of foreign online workers who are running their business from here with their Hong Kong Limited's. Why don't allow these people to get official and pay taxes?

What about the one gateway plan?

If it goes ahead the Internet will become so slow and the fact that it will be controlled by one governing body will prevent a lot of foreigners investing in Thailand.

Aaah, I know these guys. They keep blocking my access to the more stimulating websites.

I thought they were the MIC.

I can confidently predict that this is going nowhere.

Innovation is blasted out of the skulls of the kids at school, and is strictly reinforced by the "Boss Knows Best" hierarchy. Add in the unwillingness, maybe even arrogancy,  to even admit that foreigners might be able to show the Thais how to innovate and we are left with a parochial inward looking self defeating and self-defficiency economy.

Keep on collecting those Pokemons.

And don't forget to send the hourly selfie to Facebook.
