One of the alleged militants on Friday gave a hug to her supporter in front of a Bangkok military court.

BANGKOK — All of the 15 suspects arrested for allegedly plotting anti-government violence were denied bail release by the military court Friday.

The defendants, who are mostly Redshirt supporters in their 60s, stand accused of belonging to a clandestine network and conspiring in armed struggle against the state, an allegation denied by leaders of the Redshirt movement.

Thanadej Puangpoon, the attorney representing the accused, said the military tribunal ordered the 15 sent to prison even though he said they are in poor health and could not possibly interfere with any evidence.

"...The 15 are charged with insurrection, belonging to a secret society with an intent to commit crimes, and violating the junta’s ban on political gathering..."

While the Spanish may have given us the Inquisition and Junta in their turbulent past, Prayut and his cronies have been allowed to combine them into their own "modern" toxic mix of evil and bigotry that (if left unchecked) could have grave consequences for all Thais.

Surely, there can be few who don't agree with Jatupon that this is “nonsensical farce"?

The propaganda machine would have us believe that the accused are a Thai version of Dad's Army - conspiring in armed struggle against the state!

It is to be hoped that the jails for political prisoners will have facilities for the senior citizens and very elderly such as wheelchair access,  non-squat toilets, provision of walking frames if needed, access to doctors and most importantly availability of life support drugs.

I expect you feel proud Mr. Prime Minister as Commander-in Chief of the Armed Services.

It has begun in earnest hasn't it?

I am sure you realize that the military  understands the importance of being earnest.:)

Do you mean that you oppose red-shirts planning even more violence as we've seen them do in the past many, many times? Or, you oppose that some are finally being taken to task?

No, I mean, as you know well, the rounding up of anyone who opposes the Junta.  Even elderly housewives!

Anyway  you carry on defending such practises - after all they will soon desperately need anyone from outside their cabal who will speak up for them.

If they are in fact guilty of insurrection then let justice take it's course.

But there is that little chest nut, that trying civilian's in a military court is against human rights to which Thailand is a signatory and a serial breaker of that pledge whilst claiming it always respects people rights and freedoms.

And then there's the other little chest nut, That it seems that one side of the political spectrum are targeted while the others are left alone.

Now if you like using the "RED SHIRT bombers and murderers" line then be consistent as it is a fact that some yellow shirts are experienced with the bombing of people also.  But that's something not to many yellow shirt and junta supporters care to admit huh?

One 'small' point many of the usual pro-red/Thaksin/mayhem crowd are overlooking about the detainees: ''conspiring in armed struggle against the state, an allegation denied by leaders of the Redshirt movement.' Seen this movie before in 2010, it did not end well.

For those pining for a double-down of 2010 etc, you'll probably get your wish if history repeats. Directly after confiscating 46 billion of Thaksin's ill gotten gains in 2010 unrest really kicked off. Now, coffers facing massively higher 286 billion confiscation over rice scheme:

It is the deepest irony, is it not, that the juntas actions in rounding up these elderly people, throwing them in jail and denying them bail has made Jatupon Prompan sound like a reasonable politician.

Thailand has certainly gone backwards in its attempt to stifle free speech and opinion, history is now being repeated , the military haven't learned from past failures ,  the more you force people,  the more underground the problem will go , you could say the ball is in Prayut's court , big stakes indeed if you ruin a country............................................:coffee1:

No  it didn't end well, I seem to remember it ended with the army lining the parapet of the Skytrain tracks and firing into the crowds seeking sanctuary in the Wat Pathum Wanaram temple, using high velocity assault rifles. I also recall that medical personnel, clearly identified as such were deliberately shot and killed whilst tending the injured. If you're that excited by alleged illegal acts try looking at that one, in the context of the laws of armed conflict.

Or don't you remember which side in 2010 ran up the score on dead bodies?

Clandestine network of bridge players and conspiring to throw their rice soup at passing army vehicles.

I can't wait to see the tables full of flintlocks and slingshots that they have been hoarding in preparation for the battle.

typical behaviour for a lawless junta...

The law is just another weapon in their armoury to be used to keep their grip on power.

It has no other meaning or use as far as they are concerned.

Unproven who is responsible but a very unfortunate result of the reds having armed insurgents within their ranks - this is the topic of the O.P. (again), glad they are detaining those conspiring once again for another armed conflict (as we approach another confiscation of Shin family coffers *coincidentally*).

Soldiers are responsible. All evidence and foreign journalists reported that. 100,000 live bullets and 3,000 sniper bullets; certainly not for firing into the air. No conspiracy too. They were protesting an illegal government and only want an election. Military used excessive force and there were retaliation as a result of this. You just being obtuse and bigot.

I concur. Do they have proof of intent? I find it hard to believe these elderly people have any intent apart from verbal expressions of their feelings toward this illegal junta. Even murderers here can make bail what a travesty. Where are all these sactimonious international protectors of the poor and down trodden the human rights organizations? Nothing but a bunch of toothless tigers collecting a salary behind a meaningless door with their name on it. Its funny how the anti copyright people can shut down sites like Pirate Bay and Kickass that protect the rights of big business yet in this case of protecting the poor misaligned downtrodden nothing. What a hypocritical world we live in.

The military was responsible. That isn't just obvious, it has also be "proven".
