Help With Thai Peanut Sauce

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

Im originally from Sydney, Australia. I absolutely LOVE Thai food. My favourite dish is Vegetarian Hokien Malay Noodles from my local noodle house 'Thainabox'

The sauce they use is simply a peanut sauce. But I can never get that secret ingredient just right .... My friend suggested it was a sauce derived from adding peanut butter, others say its more of this and more of that....

Can anyone please send me a good recepie for sweet peanut/satay/Malay sauce??

Feel free to email me directly or reply to the post. :o

if malay noodles than maybe it's not a thai dish.

anyway, you can try to buy this sauce from the thainabox (they are buying large bottles at the wholesale prices) - if not there is a company in australia importing foods from singapore and malaysia: oriental merchant pty ltd, 10 westgate drive, laverton north, vic 3026.

you might try substitutes: salted soya beens (soja sale in malay) or soya been curd sauce (totyo in thai)

A long time ago I made a peanut sauce for satay and know I used peanut butter and it came out quite well. Lost the recipe but here is one similar and simple.

Hot peanut sauce is a standard condiment in Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand.

Difficulty: Easy

Time Required: 15 minutes

Here's How:

1. Over low heat, warm a quarter cup of crunchy peanut butter.

2. Stir in a quarter cup each of soy sauce, lime juice, and rice vinegar.

3. Add three tablespoons or freshly chopped coriander.

4. Stir in a tablespoon of brown sugar

5. Add dried chili flakes to taste (usually about a quarter teaspoon).

6. Stir until ingredients are completely mixed.

7. Serve sauce warm.

8. Refrigerate any leftover sauce.

Look for small brown matchbox sized blocks of Satay paste in the asian grocery stores.

Those blocks are as close to the original as you can get although they can be a little bit spicy if you aren't careful.
