July's industries sentiment index decreases

  

BANGKOK, 25 August 2016 (NNT) - Industrial entrepreneurs have predicted that the Thai industrial production will improve in the next three months following the government’s urgent spending, despite lower confidence of industrial entrepreneurs in July. 

Vice President of the Federation of Thai Industries Supharat Sirisuwannangkun announced the results of a survey on industrial sentiment in July 2016, saying that the sentiment index was 84.7, decreasing from the previous month at 85.3. The index dropped since entrepreneurs were still concerned over higher costs of production and consumers were more careful with their spending, he said. 

The volatility of currency exchange rates and risks in the global economy which affected the Thai export sector also led to the decreasing index, said the vice president. 

However, Mr. Supharat said the entrepreneurs’ expectations for the next three months increased from 99.8 to 100.7, an increase above 100 in five months. The increase was the result of entrepreneurs’ belief that public spending in the second half of 2016 would play an important role in economic growth expansion and spending in the private sector. 

As for car production, there were more than 153,000 units manufactured in July, decreasing by 14.4% compared to the same period last year. Thailand’s car exports dropped by 3.13%.
