BANGKOK: -- Former ICT Minister Surapong Suebwonglee of Thaksin administration was sentenced to one-year imprisonment without suspension after he was found guilty of malfeasance in office by the Supreme Court’s criminal division for political office holders for changing telecom concession contract with Shin Satellite Corp in a way which caused damages to the state.

Two co-defendants, former ICT permanent secretary Kraisorn Pornsuthee and Mr Chaiyant Poengkikatpairote, former director of the Space Affairs BureauNational, were handed down one-year imprisonment each but the jailterm was suspended for five years.

The trio were charged with changing the concession contract to reduce Shin Corp’s stake in Shin Satellite from 51 percent to 40 percent.

After the announcement of the conviction verdict, Dr Surapong was escorted by corrections officials to Bangkok special prison to serve his jailterm.

Still not much of a deterrent especially the suspended aspect for the co-accused.

Did they alter the contract out of the goodness of their hearts or what did they get out of it,   that's not clear   ?

They were probably "instructed" to do it. Whether they got a "tip" or some brownie points for future favors is moot unless they got a big payola.

But, whatever, as you say, not much of a deterrent really.

I suppose if instructed to do it a refusal would have been hazardous to their career and possibly more.    I wonder if the Nuremberg Defence was presented  in court   ?

So when is the General going to catch up with his mate Suthep who has a list of corruptions as long as a donkey's dick.

You know this for certain because....................................    and have the proof as well? Why wasn't he charged under any of Thaksin's governments then?
