All provinces ordered to enhance natural disaster mitigation

BANGKOK, 26 August 2016 (NNT) – The Ministry of Interior has ordered all provinces to ready rescue efforts and prepare immediate response units, in light of the recent earthquake in Myanmar and heavy rains in Thailand.

Ministry of Interior Permanent-Secretary Grisada Boonrach has issued an urgent order to related agencies to closely monitor for natural disaster incidents in the area and be prepared to provide immediate assistance to the public.

The order was issued after an earthquake incident occurred in Myanmar yesterday, while thunderstorms are still prevailing over Thailand's Northeastern region and high precipitation has caused the swelling of Mekong River, with water overflowing the river banks.
Latest inspection from the Ministry has confirmed that natural disaster warning systems at the central and provincial levels are still below expected standards.

Provinces in the Northern region have been ordered to closely monitor for any aftershocks or seismic activities from earthquakes, while provinces in the Northeastern region were ordered to prioritize on monitoring the risk of flooding due to heavy rains.

Provinces that are at risk from floods, including Bangkok and its peripheral areas, have been ordered to prepare water drainage plans, with a focus on how to retain water for future usage, and to keep roads accessible for vehicles.

The Nan river broke its banks last week.  A lot of water heading south for Bangkok.  Hope they have a flood water management plan in place and the dams are empty and waiting.

Well, if they're not prepared yet, they can be 'ordered' to be prepared.

Well what is preparation? Well not in Thailand.

If serious floods threaten Bkk perhaps PM Canute can bar their path,   invoke Art 44 and order the water to recede.

;)

What fine theatre.
