webfact Posted August 26, 2016 Posted August 26, 2016 Phuket culture officials fight to save classic Sino-Portuguese home Chanida Summast Phuket officials have launched a campaign to preserve the century-old classic Sino-Portuguese home from demolition. PHUKET: -- Local officials are calling for people to support the fight to save a century-old Phuket Sino-Portuguese home slated for demolition as part of the plans to expand Vachira Phuket Hospital in Phuket Town. Known as the “Boonphat Building”, the abode is in classic Sino-Portuguese mansion style and surrounded by mahogany trees planted during in the reign of Rama VI (Phra Bat Somdet Phra Poramentharamaha Vajiravudh Phra Mongkut Klao Chao Yu Hua) in 1917. “I want every one to join the campaign against the idea of demolishing this Sino-Portuguese building because the building is important to Phuket,” Atsawin Auttatum, President of the Culture Office in Phuket Town, told The Phuket News today (Aug 26). “I thank all of you who love our culture. We should care and be concerned about Phuket’s historic sites,” he said. Thawatchai Thataisalsilp, Archaeologist at the Region 15 Office of the Fine Arts Department, based in Phuket, visited the area and inspected the building today. Class C Posted August 26, 2016 Posted August 26, 2016 Please don't demolish. These wonderfully historic buildings add great character and spirit to the local area.
Somtamnication Posted August 26, 2016 Posted August 26, 2016 There is a nice one on the same street as Plookpanya school. Also in really bad shape.
Valentine Posted August 26, 2016 Posted August 26, 2016 Vachira should be expanding in a location where they can provide ample parking. If you go there alone there is generally a long walk from where you park none of which space is provided by the hospital. It is also in a very busy road so having another A & E or even 2 on both north & south sides of the island could help save many lives.
zaZa9 Posted August 27, 2016 Posted August 27, 2016 Agree with Valentine. Parking along there is near impossible as it is , let alone with more extensions added. Phuket is no longer in an early stage of development , yet city officials are still letting developments go ahead without ANY parking , any setbacks , or any contribution to town infrastructure. Its preposterous. Land owners are hell bent on using every inch of their land for their own profit , as they would anywhere, but in Phuket they are almost assisted by local officials to do so. Recently , a hotel on the main rd. was 'renovated'... this included building on the generous car park and outdoor area and pool. They built right up to every boundary , and even shut down the roads to do so. Now numerous buses a day stop all traffic ( sometimes one is stuck for 10 to 15 minutes ) while they disgorge Chinese tourists , then do a 7 point reverse u-turn , in order to creep back out onto the main rd. To have not forced the ( Chabana ) Hotel developer to construct a bus layover nor any bus parking ( nor car parking for that matter ! ) is no less than a dereliction of duty ...
