Immigration and Owning Land in Thailand - Proposals

Recommended Posts

I have been accused in the past of being a Fantasist and a Thai Basher and while these accusations were not completely incorrect, I do feel it is time that the readers of Thai Visa, in fact the who of Thailand, take a few minutes to just absorb how I would like to see the Immigration into the Country run. After all, if you heed some of my suggestions and that after all is all they really are, then you will not find me complaining and moaning anymore.

PLEASE NOTE: These are my own views and suggestions and are not or likely to be policy in Thailand.

Immigration

I propose a new kind of immigration called "P" (Paid) Visa. This new visa can be purchased at the Airport, it would have a cost of 100,000 THB and is held in trust on your behalf by the Thai Authorities. In return for the non interest bearing bond, you would get the following benefits.

1. The right to remain in Thailand for the period of 365 days.

2. If you were to fall ill and had no means to pay for medical treatment, then the bond could be used to get you basic treatment and a flight home to your Home Country.

3. If you found yourself destitute or you run out of available funds, then this money could be used to purchase a flight ticket home.

4. If you found yourself simply wanting to extend your stay for another year, you would simply go to the airport and renew for another year, using the same funds.

5. If you wish to simply enjoy your stay, then on return out of the airport, your bond would be returned to you.

Owning Property & Land

I propose that foreigners should be given the right to own, buy and sell land up to a certain land area. Say 5 Rai. This means that foreigners no longer have to bypass the rules on owning land by forming companies or putting land in partners names etc. However in order to prevent abuse of this system, I would propose that each foreigner has the right to own up to 5 Rai of Land for his/her own purposes, but not for commercial activities like growing rice etc.

It will never happen.

You can stay for 100k Baht a year right now if you pay 500k for 5 years or a million Baht for 20 years with the Thailand Elite program.

They don't give it back though.

I didn't realise this. Unfortunate they don't give it back.

It seems you get this mainly from Brits-----& I am a Brit....they visit they find out the rules, they still decided to come & live here anyway----then they whine about the rules.........something akin to going into restaurant where smoking is not allowed then complaining about not being allowed to smoke.........why don't we do it this way---change it all--just let me be allowed to smoke a little........etc....etc

-

You knew what the rules where before you came here (or were you really too stupid to find out) but you sold up & came anyway.......and now you would like to alter everything in favour of the immigrant. You then start to blame the Thais for the rules they have had for the last 46 years..

No your not a Thai basher-----just a complete  idiot---- :coffee1:

100k is nowhere enough for medical treatment in many cases.

How's about you change your proposal to 100k deposit plus purchasing mandatory health/accident insurance from a Thai government approved insurer.

Thailand is smart to restrict foreign ownership of land.  Without it the place would be controlled by the Chinese or dodgy farangs.

I thought it was.  Gee that's a shock.  Thais control the price of their currency which controls the price of everything.  I didn't know that.  Who is that American who owns Minor corp?  Is he really Thai.  Aren't all those new buildings in Pattaya financed by Chinese money?  No?  Well you learn something every day - I'll tell you.  I'm glad I read Thai Visa.

I am not surprise that a Chinese Firm hasn't set up, Thavisa-therulesdonnotapplytous.com

After all arnt the Chinese financing a fancy new railroad, paid for in full by the Chinese. Such generosity.

I agree about the first paragraph but it won't happen because it's common sense. It would have to apply only to visa holders though, as they couldn't vet an applicant at the airport.

I don't want to see any foreigner owning Thai land. I don't want foreigners to own land in my home country either, but it's too late for that to happen.
