I'm looking to buy a scooter so I'll need a residency permit for the green book.

I've been away for 6 months, just moving into my new apt today.

Whats the procedure to get a residency permit now?

What do I need?

Where do I go?

Cheers

The Residency Certificate is not a easy to get as it once was.... and if you do a search you will find a lot of recent information regarding the certificate.

In a nut shell CM Immigration are no longer doing them and have simply stated that you are to go to you own consulate/embassy to get one.  For a lot of folk that means a trip to BKK.  Yes it is a PITA (Pain in the A#@^) but in true Immigration fashion I dont believe they care about that.

Ive not heard of any update for a few days.  Just a lot of very disgruntled long term visitors (Retirees and the like)...and I cant say I blame them

I just wonder if this country is trying to commit financial suicide from the 17th floor.

The TOT and others are doing their best drive away tourists and are well documented but I think the strategy Immigration is on to send potential income elsewhere is even more suicidal.

This little 500bt scam from us over the years was income for photographers, the doctors, the photocopiers and immigration, but no; we don't want it we are going to let your embassy have it...and more of it. I think we will let Bangkok air and Air asia have some as well so we will make Bangkok the only point of contact here.

lets stop border crossings and the generous income that was was giving the silver van brigade, the green bus co. ;the markets, and the border checkpoints.

Instead we will give it all away to the flight companies and why not all those hotels and restaurants, tuk tuk drivers; the man driving his bus over the friendship bridge in Vientiene and K.L.

Surely they can officially charge for a residence certif which people need to buy a bike 50k+.

what is their promprem .

i really thought Thais loved money more than I do

I think VietJet is starting service here, any day now.  But, yeah, as someone, who enjoys the money game it is quite painful to see people shoot themselves in the feet...so often, so many times.  There is probably more to the CoR story than we know....sometimes, the shooting in the feet is retaliatory conduct after loss of face, which is one of the few things they frequently value more than money.  Maybe a well known advocate for our very powerful expat lobby called them on the 500 thb BS (after all, it's suppose to be free)....but then again, that's a lot less than 1800, let alone a trip to the Big Mango.  Maybe, this time, we were the ones doing the shooting.

In a more recent development, KTB atms will now have the capability of accepting payments for the new "bar coded traffic tickets," apparently many complained about having to pay cash at the scene, palm to palm.  It was so nice of the foreigners to point this out to the BiB, I'm sure it will be worth paying 400% more for the satisfaction of getting a receipt out of the atm, and now they will just use the cameras and it may be the biggest money maker since beer tax.  Be careful what you wish for.

Im not too sure if paying bar coded traffic tickets will cost more....a few blogs ago it was mentioned that it was costing around 400 baht for no motorcy licence in situ.  Then another tv member stated (and with a photo to prove it) that the actual fine is only 200 baht.

We shall see what occurs with this 'new system'.   But really this CoR debarcle is just ludicrous.  What really has got up Immigrations nose that much to cause a stunt like this?  It beggars belief.

Personally Ive never had a beef with any of the Immigration staff, but something or someone is a bad apple in that organisation.  Its like every district have their own set of SOPs....weird.

Ive heard people put it down to this area being a red shirt stronghold....why that matters I care not.

Some town halls will give a residency certificate, but not all of them.  It's got to be worth a try if the alternative is a trip to BKK.

Has anyone tried this in the last week or so?

EDIT - hadn't heard about VietJet, that will be fantastic, means we don't have to trail down to BKK to get to VN and if they're just starting a new route there'll be some nice cheap fares to promote it.

EDIT 2 - ah, looks like they're only doing CNX to BKK for now.  Never mind, it will come eventually.

If you read the photo of the notice that is displayed at the Immigration office it says " system is under  fixing up and upgrade" which suggests that the service will be resumed once this mysterious process is completed. Wisely they have not quoted a date for resumption, but let us hope they are not using the same IT wizards who are undertaking the disaster that is the Thai Visa upgrade!

You can see the picture on page one of the badly titled thread "Residency Visa at consulate's only" in the CM forum.

There is no system,  letters or certs, if you prefer, are just a standard template with the persons name and adress manually inserted on the computer.

Its probably just a diversion or dummy spit
