PHUKET:-- Residents fed up with inaction by their local authority have placed sandbags and flags to mark dangerous potholes and sections of road that have washed away along neighbourhood street in Srisoonthorn, central Phuket.

Residents of Moo 6 Baan Ya say that Thungsuerkhwan Rd has been in dire need of repairs for more than six months and has been the site of many accidents.

The damaged section of road is 2.7km long and has no street lights at night.

The residents accuse Srisoonthorn of doing nothing to fix the road, and today began placing sandbags marked with flags in huge potholes to warn people of the danger.

I seem to remember a film starting with 'you people' and it all went downhill from there!

these must be some serious pot holes that require immediate attention. these could be potential dangerous for driver particularly during lpoor vision periods.

In the LOS to build a road costing a half million  baht ,the government over estimates by plus  two the actual cost. The extra  one million baht  obtained from the tax coffers is then divided up among the officials .The remaining actual cost is then paid to the contractor. The contractor takes a ten percent cut and subs it to another contractor who in turn pockets his cut also. The road then is constructed with improper material resulting with a road that will brake down soon after. In the mean time all paperwork of said contracts will vanish from the files so that no one can be blamed. As Trink first noted TIT.

Exactly ...  and will need repair ... and the merry-go-round contines forever with all parties getting their cut.

Once a policeman fined me cause I did not stop before the white line at the intersection but no white line there cause so old and no mantainance.

He said that was not his problem to advise municipality to repaint the road.....

Same they do everywhere for road mantainance but if we do something wrong then no merci....we are farang, we have big money and must pay and shut our mouth......
