Phuket blood center needs AB supplies

PHUKET:-- The Phuket Regional Blood Center (PRBC) is holding blood donation sessions across Phuket throughout September to replenish blood stocks, especially AB blood types.

Under the banner ‘Give Blood to Fellowmen’, the September blood donation drive is in honor of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit’s 84th birthday anniversary and His Majesty the King's 70th anniversary of his accession to the throne. Queen Sirikit is also the President of the Thai Red Cross Society. 

PRBC chief Pornthip Rattajak said donations of AB blood types are urgently needed to bolster stocks in case blood is required for emergencies in Phuket and other neighboring provinces.

AB as a group is actually not that high in demand as someone who is AB can receive blood from all blood groups. What's always needed is O as its the universal donor group but someone with O can not receive blood from the other groups. Someone who is O- can only receive O- blood,  about 6% of the world population or less than 2% here in Asia are O- so that is the blood group that needs to be stockpiled before the tourist season starts.

It's too bad I'm considered "too old" to donate blood. I know how rare AB is.

At 56 and  being considered too old is nothing more than cutting off your nose to spite your face, or even shooting yourself in the foot. Sorry, I have what you need,  just not allowed to help.
