CHAINAT: -- SEVERAL local leaders are now facing a probe over a raid that found them gambling inside the Tambon Khao Kaeo Administrative Organisation in Chainat province on Sunday.

A team of soldiers caught 12 local leaders including the organisation's chief Anuchai Ketya and Khao Kaew kamnan Somneuk Ketya "red-handed" inside their office. They were allegedly caught with gambling equipment and cash.

Sapphaya district chief Prapas Wandia has now ordered a disciplinary probe into these local political-office holders. If found guilty, they will be dismissed.

All 12 suspects, except Anuchai and Somneuk, have admitted to the crime.

Red handed! Nice pun but the writer but he or she will probably get locked up for that quip.

Why are soldiers doing police work anyway?

I bet down south they won't catch anyone yellow handed.

Luckily, the army isn't as politically associated as the police.  Remember when part of the army supported the riots in Bangkok?

Congrats to the army.  Keep up the good work.  Sadly, the police can't be trusted to properly enforce the laws.

When they do, you will be telling us he is out of favour, or being pushed out so somebody else can take his position.

Yes.. never seen so many corruption charges and convictions as during the Junta their power.. but according to the red its all political motivated. :cheesy:

Maybe not doing a thing under PTP rule was politcal motivated as they hated going after their own corrupt minions.

cops do very nicely out of illegal gambling. another reason to legalize it, along with prostitution. kind of ironic to legalize something to stop the police from profiting from it.

Right on queue as expected.

Glad to see the  the soldiers generals are all squeaky clean and none of them have the odd bet on let's say Liverpool etc.

Dont know how junta supporters view blanket amnesty for the junta so they can't be held accountable but the majority on here have far different views on what is and what is not corruption in all its forms.

The junta was forced into this by the street protest of the people against the amnesty of Thaksin. Blame your leader for it not the junta. So yes I agree with the amnesty for the Junta for stepping in. Something that would not have happened if Thaksin had not included himself in the amnesty at the last moment and let it be the way it was. Also many red real political activist would have been freed then but his selfish ways brought this junta in power.

side note.. if the reds had not bombed the peaceful protesters then it would also have been much more unlikely for the army to step in.. so on two fronts did the PTP make mistakes.

Have fun thinking about that.

Butt he fact remains that during this Junta there has been done far more about corruption far more cases tried then ever before. Do you deny that ?

I expect the local police are green with envy that the army lads managed to do a job that they, the cops were too yellow bellied to undertake. Had the cops gone in, the gamblers would have tried to brown envelope their way out of the situation.

With the army giving the orders, the gambling boss can complain 'til he's blue in the face, it isn't going to help him, his gambling den is now black listed.

The Bib have always being the receivers of the brown envelops of money to look the other way . Since the coup The Army have taken to raiding or making the local Bib raid illegal clubs ,gambling areas and other places that the local bib have been getting money from. This shows the bib how is relay in charge and takes money from the bib to keep them in line.

Because before the police were accepting bribes to keep the gambling dens open. So the PM had to deputize the Army with Police Powers to force the police to do their jobs. The Army is doing a great job in policing  the police. This is a good example.

The police knew that gambling was happening inside the Tambon, but the Police Chief was taking a cut of the action. He will be

transferred tomorrow along with the top 6 in the police station. General Prime Minister you are doing a great job. Keep it up!
