NACC yet to reach conclusion on case of violent 2008 protest crackdown

BANGKOK, 8 September 2016 (NNT) – The National Anti-Corruption Commission is yet to reach any conclusion on the case of the 2008 protest crackdown.

NACC Chairman Pol. Gen. Watcharapol Prasarnratchakij said that the committee in charge of the crackdown on the 2008 gathering by the People's Alliance for Democracy has prepared all details of the case for the main NACC meeting but it has not been included in any agenda yet.

Gen. Watcharapol explained that the case has not been processed because the NACC received a petition, which asked it to reconsider the resolution to drop the investigation into the crackdown of the 2010 protest.

Accordingly, the commission decided to work on both cases simultaneously in order to study the similarities and differences thoroughly, he said.

Gen. Watcharapol stated that, because both cases share similar contexts, the NACC must treat them carefully although the investigation needs new evidence and witnesses before any real progress can be made.

The NACC Chairman expects however that a conclusion of the investigation into both cases will be reached before the end of September.

OK, first of all, what is the NACC, which is allegedly not the Junta's lapdog but rather is empowered to pursue an "anti-corruption" agenda, doing with the crackdowns in 2010 and 2008 in the first place... looking for corruption?  And secondly, what is the NACC's need to study the similarities and differences between these two events ... if it is not to re-rewrite history and whitewash the junta leader for the 2010 crackdown??
