Man gets 60 years in prison for sexually abusing children

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Authorities say a 47-year-old man living near Portland has been sentenced to 60 years in prison for sexually abusing or exploiting children in the Philippines and in Oregon.

The U.S. Justice Department said Steven Rockett was sentenced Thursday for producing child pornography outside the United States, engaging in illicit sexual conduct in foreign places, producing and attempting to produce child pornography and possession of child pornography.

A federal jury in Portland convicted him of the charges after a May trial.

Prosecutors say Rockett sexually abused children, solicited children to take and send him sexually explicit photos of themselves and also secretly recorded children undressing and showering at his residences in Forest Grove and Aloha and in Philippine hotel rooms.

Rockett is currently appealing a 52-year state prison sentence for sexually abusing five children.

Hopefully they will be consecutive sentences as imposed by separate jurisdictions.

It's really scary how many predators are traveling to places like the Philippines, Cambodia and Vietnam.

Whenever you see kids in Pattaya selling flowers, chewing gum, or anything else, please don't buy something.

Most are kids bought in Cambodia for a few dollars only. They don't go to school and once they're "old enough" ( a sad definition, as some start as child prostitutes)  they're part of the sex trade.

But it's about the Philippines and it seems to be a real huge problem in such a poor country.

I feel very sorry for those kids and a corrupt government can hardly protect them.

Sexually abusing children. He is a disgusting apology of a human being.

Why jail him???? Better form of punishment, let him loose in a room full of mothers for 30 minutes.

After that problem solved just bury him.

Good to see a long sentence.

You mean the mothers that collect the money from the sons and daughters they rent out?
