Looks like my Hotmail has upgraded automatically, how can I get it back to old format?

What do you mean by 'format'?

Most of my Hotmail accounts are now Outlook accounts. I can still use the @hotmail name. They look roughly the same as my old Hotmail accounts.

Sometimes POP access is disabled after the upgrade. Sometimes the very first time I log in using a browser, the "Options" menu doesn't work and I can't log out. I have to kill the browser tab and go to Hotmail again and then it loads my inbox and it all works.

I didn't like the new Outlook format either, which seems more suited to mobile phones than desktop computers.

They upgrade you without warning and there's no going back.

As I use POP almost exclusively to collect email and store it on my PC, I rarely use a browser to access Hotmail, Outlook, Gmail, Yahoo, etc.

The only times I do is when something gets changed (e.g. Hotmail > Outlook) and I have to use a browser to sort things out, like re-enabling POP access.

Ditto for me on my computers...and to check my spam folders a couple times per month since those quarantined emails don't get downloaded via pop access to Outlook. And almost always I'm checking my spam folders via my Android gmail/email apps.  Yeap, about the only time I logon via browser is to check/change some email setting.
