Passport for ID or Photocopy?

Featured Replies

Evening All,

I'll be in Bangkok and Chiangmai for a couple of weeks holiday in November.

I understand that foreigners need to carry their passports as ID at all times. Does it need to be the original passport or is a colour copy acceptable?

Although you are supposed to carry your passport you don't need to. A copy will usually do. Iv'e been stopped several times in Bangkok and never been asked to produce my passport. IMO any fine is negligible and preferable to the chance of losing a passport.

LOL! I like to think not.

I was stopped twice riding on the back of a motor bike taxi, once in a taxi at a road check and once walking through an area that they were doing random checks.
