BANGKOK: -- The National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission has formed a panel to investigate an incident in which an official of Advance Info Services (AIS) was accused of leaking confidential information of some mobile phone clients to unauthorized outsiders.

NBTC secretary-general Takorn Tanthasit said Wednesday that AIS, the mobile phone service provider, would have to prove that it did not consent to the staffer’s breach of confidentiality.

AIS earlier notified NBTC that it had already fired the staffer in question. But Takorn said that the panel would investigate anyway and the company must clarify whether it knew about the incident or not.

AIS have to prove they didn't consent to the breaches of confidentiality, and if they can't ?

Some innovation by NBTC though as they've sent up a panel NOT a committee.

Will they operate under the often used standard procedure of starting with the final conclusion and working back to ensure it's justified ?

You answered your final question with your first.

Oh goody....another committee......!

But of course an investigation must happen......whether it would be transparent and honest is another matter.

If this panel finds that private information was sold.....AIS should be charged and cop it......5 years in prison and a big fine is the penalty for the operator........obviously this would never eventuate.....but my guess is an apology will suffice the NBTC!

Again, this language implies that an AIS official used his authorization to access confidential information. No hacking or security violation involved other than presumed unauthorized disclosure of confidential information.
