Best neighbouring country for non-B teaching visa?

Featured Replies

My British girlfriend just got a teaching job in bkk and needs to acquire a non-B visa. Savannakhet, Hanoi, Vientiane, Phnom Penh, or KL? Which is fastest/easiest?

Thanks.

SavannaKhet is very easy and the queue is usually smaller than Vientiane. She must have proper paperwork provided by her school .

Vientiane is easy too. Probably a little less boring than Savannahket.

I agree about that.

I hope she has had all the documents ready by now that are needed to apply

for a Non-B as a teacher such as 'A Police Clearance.'

One advantage of going to Savannakhet. No police clearance required.

Thanks for that info. Do you know this from recent personal experience?

Yes.

Savannakhet is a lot quicker (especially during the middle of the week) than Vientiane, for one thing, the queue at Savannakhet is less than half the queue you get at the Lao capital, but Vientiane and Udon Thani have the advantage of Air Asia flights to Bangkok and the rail connection.  Also make sure it's neither a Thai or Lao public holiday as the embassy/consulate will be closed.

It seems like Penang has been an old favorite, guaranteed to be better than kl or sing, but still no guarantee of success.  Would you be getting a one year or a 90 day.

Impossible to get a 1 year multi-entry Non-B anywhere local without already having a work permit with at least 9 months remaining on it.

Helpful info,thanks....but could you convert a 90 into a 1year multi at a local immigration office?  With a valid wp, of course.

You could apply for an extension of stay and purchase a multi-entry re-entry permit.
