STOPPAGE TIME

We’re still holding the future in our hands

BANGKOK: -- The views are great but that’s only because we are getting higher on a steep and dangerous road. Thailand’s lumbering journey toward the next election is like a car ride up a mountainous path made slippery and treacherous by rain. An accident might happen at any time, and, if it does, what now looks so near will suddenly appear so far.

It must be scary to be good, mustn't it? This is a time when anyone can make a costly error, but this is also a time when just one tiny mistake is enough to blow everything to pieces.

Exactly, all the Thai people have is what they're given by the so called govt and that's unlikely to change soon unless it reaches the point where an earthquake occurs and we can imagine what that might mean. It's not a pleasant thought.

Another ridiculous analogy by Tabtim.  For starters, climbing a hill and reaching the peak is not the scary part. It's what happens when you start going down.

A better metaphor would be to say Thailand Is on a circular track, there are some straight sections, but always a U-turn ahead.

Oh, and the vehicles are unsafe and the drivers unqualified.

The race track analogy is very apt.

Like motor racing, a huge amount of noise, energy, effort and money is expended in going around and around, with no benefit acrueing to those, who ultimately pay for it all and are not the players. When it is all over the only discernable change is that the pecking order of those in poll position may have changed slightly.

Oh and of course the occasional "high profile fatality "!

like the race track analogy much better. over the last 80 years it has taken an average of 4 years to get around it to the finish line which is the next coup. the last 2 coups have taken a bit longer however. took 15 years for the second last one (1991 to 2006) and 8 years for the last one (2006 till 2014) showing that the players have slowed down or the track as gotten longer. actually you know what, i think i could have written this article better than this bozo.

Make sure the tires are round and not square.
