BANGKOK: -- Some 21 Thai women who were lured into the sex trade in Muscat, Oman, have been freed.

The women who thought they would be working as masseuses in a spa were lured with a Facebook page offering work that was run by both foreigners and Thais, reported Daily News.

The ad on the page "Pattaya job search - apply for work" said that Thai women could earn 100,000 baht a month and all travel expenses would be met.

But when the victims arrived in Muscat, the capital of Oman, their passports were taken and they were imprisoned in a six floor apartment building. Their captors said they were in debt to them to the tune of 1,600 Omani riyals or 160,000 baht.

They were forced to work from 7pm to 5am getting customers by the side of the road. If they didn't get a customer they were forced to sleep on the sidewalk.

All their money from the sex was taken from them to service the debt.

They were told that they could have their passport back and go in 2-3 months when the debt was paid.

It was reported that few of the men wore condoms.

Three women had managed to flee the brothel on the 5th of August and got to the Thai embassy in Muscat before being repatriated.

Yesterday Thai authorities working with their Omani counterparts said that a further 21 women had been freed.

Thai police said they have five suspects naming two as Omar and Nuat of unspecified nationality.

No further details about the arrests were given.

"Thai police said they have five suspects naming two as Omar and Nuat of unspecified nationality. "

An appropriate business name?

I am sure most of these naive women must have known there was more to this work than rubbing swarthy Arabs the right way.

Well now you know why the "Nigerian, I have $20 million to transfer to your account" email scams work for some gullible and greedy people! LOL

And.....this is why the Phillipines now do checks on their nationals before giving them an exit visa to leave for "jobs" abroad.

But, here in Thailand women are totally exploited from birth especially if they are born dirt poor.

The only way to stop this is for all embassies to demand their people to visit after 1 month.  If not they will be sought after and perhaps being listed as missing. Contacting the person who brought her would quickly solve the problem and if they are already in embassy they are safe

Let's not be too naive... many of these women probably went there for prostitution. What they didn't expect was that they would not get paid.

Muscat: It was a room packed with more than 150 men and women, who had all been arrested from Muscat, for wearing indecent clothes and allegedly trying to indulge in immoral activities, the Royal Oman Police (ROP) reported.

Of the 155 arrested, there are 121 Thai women and one man, 11 Filipinas, six Filipinos, 10 Tanzanian women, and four members of other nationalities.

The ROP collected blood samples from them for further medical tests.

They could model it on Thai immigration 90 day report, seems to work reasonably well for us frags.

I like that idea. Forcing 30 day reporting on Thais.

I reckon you'll get a lot of support for that.

I should add that in many cases the traffickers have people at immigration who will renew the visa without seeing the person, so that the traffickers can exploit them for a maximum of three months before shoving them on a plane home with a sore ar$e and empty pockets.

It's stories like this that quite rightly cause the Thai authorities worry about the safety of Thai ladies going abroad for work.

Yes, that is why it took from the 7th of August to 'raid' the apartment building. It appears the Thai's don't hold much sway with the Omani police; at least not enough sway for quick action.

100,000 baht a month working as a masseuse - and they didn't smell a rat?  Hard to believe, though I shudder at the treatment they claim was doled out to them in lieu of the money.

They've been raised to believe that all foreigners are rich, so probably never doubted for a moment that their customers would pay a huge sum for the service.
