Travel info for Savannakhet pease

Featured Replies

Hi, I want to go to  Savannakhet  from Bangkok. I understand there is a bus. I'm sure someone has written a full guide but the forum search found nothing. Thanks.

Mochit Bus Depot. Grab any bus heading to Mukdahan. Yes...it's that easy. The destinations are posted...easy peazy

From Mukdahan bus station buy a ticket on the international bus to Savannahket.

When you get to Savannakhet...many Tuk Tuks to drive you where you need to go. Most drivers know you want to go straight to the Thai consulate (Khongsoon in Thai).

Best when going to Savannakhet is probably an overnight VIP bus (leaving about 8:00 pm or so) to Mukdahan. Then the international bus as advised above.

For the return, consider the fly-ride service from Mukdahan provided by Nok Air or Air Asia. This has you back in Bangkok late evening as opposed to the following morning on the VIP bus.

Don't use any bus as some are poor service plus going correct time means transition is smooth & reduces wasted time .

Don't bother with tuk-tuks unless you like throwing money away or unable walk a little as 50bt bus does job fine plus consulate a easy 12 minute walk from savanakhet bus station & you got plenty time so no rush, being later than 9am is bonus as no queue, turn up 9:45 & you vip lol ...

Print forms in advance & have photos etc ... plenty hotel options near bus station area too from 300Bt to 700Bt .
