Prawit rules out massive flooding like in 2011

Featured Replies

Just follow the simple solution to understanding life in Thailand:

Take any public pronouncement made by any senior government official, and you can safely presume that the exact opposite is what's really occurring or soon will.

If you were in the floods of 2011 you will know it was totally different.  204 villages is peanuts compared to back then. I do pity those people though.

I was here in 2011 and I know what happened. Houses in Rangsit were flooded  1,7 meters. But a generals blah blah does not convince me this will not happen again! An "official" (in charge of making the decision closing or opening the gates for the floodwater flow of the Chao Phraya river) explained it to me like this- when nobody was around to listen:

There are six provincial governors in charge to decide to open or close gates in their provinces between here and Bangkok. All of them have vital interest to protect  their local and foreign enterprises. Hence, they decided to close their gates, which could spread the flood equally, in favor of let the water go to Bangkok. Convince me the guy was wrong...

Connections with the Almighty?

And once the rains have gone there will be drought.

And again there has been no thought to building new reservoirs.

We need someone with critical thinking to work this one out. So that rules out the majority of the Thai population.
