KHON KAEN: -- Following the story of an attractive Thai model bathing in a potholed road to get some action from the authorities, some Khon Kaen grannies have taken a leaf out of her book.

A bunch of senior folk took to the potholes of a 2 kilometer stretch of road in the Kham Khaen sub district of the north eastern province, reported Sanook.

They were armed with suitably modest attire that Thais use for outdoor bathing as well as the ubiquitous "khan" or dipping bucket as they scooped up the muddy water.

It may have been a great laugh but their message to the local authority was serious - do something about our bloomin' road!

Sanom Jung-angwa said that the road was an important artery for hundreds of homes in the area. Calls to the authorities had been ignored. Apart from anything, she said, the road was the cause of many accidents especially now it was the rainy season.

Last Friday an attractive model named as "Palm" was pictured in similar circumstances taking a solo bath in a road in Tak province in Thailand's north west.

Well done ladies- hopefully the power of social media will shame the authorities to line the road instead of their pockets.

It does appear that SM is the only way to get things done in TH.

Good going ladies. Not original thinking but you have a messege to be heard. Perhaps your local orbator office can now over quote to fix the roads yet do nothing more than poor in cold mix bitumen, buy themselves earthmoving equiptment to keep for themselves and continue to dig holes destroying the enviroment so youll be showering in flash floods soon enough which will then require more overquoting projects and destruction. Its the thai way....

I was forced to buy a small excavator to make sure the roads and waterways where i live are useable and effective for the community. How else will these chauffer driven selfindulgent slave driving pricks get around...doing my part;)

The problem is many educated Thais just see dark-skinned rural women like this as being almost Cambodian. They don't really give a damn about these people in this far off place called Khon Kaen. If they did, the nation's wealth would be fairly spent across the population rather than the majority dumped on Bangkok. The people who control the nation's wealth are busy spending billions on new luxuries for Bangkok. The real problem isn't local its the spending of the nations wealth which is made by the rural people working in the hotels, factories, and other businesses across the nation. All for Bangkok and then the leftovers for the majority of the people.

I believe that modest attire is known as a sarong by Thais and westerners.

Yes the roads are a real safety issue and yes most tax collections are spent lavishly in Bangkok. I like the idea the that man with his back to the camera has Safety First emblazoned on the back. Rather ironic.

I'm not a road or construction business, but I doubt anything can be done until after the rainy seasons is over, but good luck.

Just two weeks ago I watched a new concrete road being constructed close to my house.

They laid down a fairly dry concrete mix, set rebar on top and pushed it into the mix until it was just below the surface. The mix was covered with tarpaulin to protect it from the heavy rain.

Two hours later the entire process was repeated and a further two hours later the top layer was poured and the levelled. The road was again covered until the next day when it was uncovered and opened to traffic.

I was expecting a total disaster due to the heavy rain but they did a great job.
