I got dipped by some gypsy-type kids on Rome metro, never felt a thing. Luckily I was aware of the presence of thieves on the metro so the loss was limited to one Visa card and about 100 Euro in cash. Still a pain. They did get their comeuppance though, I saw the parents with said kids being "escorted" out of the metro by the authorities some days later :)
