BANGKOK: -- The Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (Egat) has cooperated with the National Electronics and Computer Technology Centre (Nectec) in developing a remote sensing system to ensure the safety of dams.

Egat’s deputy governor for business development Mr Atthaporn Wattanavisut said Tuesday that the system would provide update information about the conditions of dams around-the-clock so that officials in charge of the dams would be able to deal with emergency situations immediately.

For instances, he said that sensor device in the system will be able to detect leakages, movements or subsidence of dams and relay the information to the RTU and then to the computer network.

Many dams, all over the world, don't have these sensors, makes you wonder why Thailand is installing them, oh, wait, someone 's going to make a lot of money out of it.
