BANGKOK: -- The cabinet turned down a proposal of the Foreign Ministry to declare October 10 a public holiday as it coincides with the last day of the three-day Asia Cooperation Dialogue to be held in Bangkok on October 8-10.

 

The cabinet reasoned that the proposal is not necessary as the dialogue is to be held during school holidays when traffic is normally not as congested and manageable.

Why is this even an issue ?

 

Missing out on an extra holiday ? Where's the usual blurb about increasing domestic tourism and increased spending to benefit the economy ?

What's the argument for it being a holiday? Too reduce Bangkok traffic problems? So by that "logic", everyday should be a holiday.
