Chachoengsao: One Dead, One Injured in Pickup and Motorcycle Sidecar Collision
Picture from responders. A fatal accident occurred just before 16:45, on September 6, in Phanom Sarakham District, Chachoengsao Province, resulting in the death of one individual and the injury of another. The incident took place in front of a car wash near the entrance of Ban Khao Wong in Village 2, Khao Hin Son Subdistrict. Emergency responders received a report of the accident, which involved a collision between a pickup truck and a motorcycle with a sidecar. Upon arriving at the scene, volunteers found two victims. A male individual was suffering from chest tightness and abrasions across his body, while a female victim was discovered deceased at the scene. According to witnesses and confirmed by CCTV (below) the motorcycle and sidecar was stopped waiting to turn right, when the pickup veered across the road and hit it head on, ripping the sidecar and passenger from the motorcycle. The motorcycle and male rider was left in the middle of the road and the sidecar with female passenger thrown some distance down the road.The driver of the pickup truck was suspected of being intoxicated, with the accident occurring on a dry straight road, which was not busy at the time. First aid was administered to the injured male victim, who was then transported to Panomsarakham Hospital for further medical care. Authorities from Khao Hin Son Police Station were called to the scene to investigate the incident. They arranged for the deceased woman's body to be transported to Panomsarakham Hospital for an official autopsy. Residents of Na Jomtien in Sattahip District have voiced serious concerns over a utility pole that has left dangerously in the middle of a road near a sharp curve behind the local municipal office. The hazard, which lacks warning signs or proper lighting, has left the community worried about potential accidents. On September 6, local reporters visited the site, located on Soi Na Jomtien 44, connecting to Soi Na Jomtien 46 in Village 3, Na Jomtien Subdistrict. The issue arose after the Na Jomtien Municipality undertook a road construction project in the area, specifically on Soi Na Jomtien 44. The new road, 5 metres in width and 530 metres in length, was part of a concrete road construction project costing approximately 1,700,000 baht, was scheduled for completion within 90 days, starting on May 31, 2024, and due to be completed on August 28, 2024. During the inspection, it was revealed that the utility pole is positioned directly in the middle of the concrete road at a sharp curve. Alarmingly, there are no warning signs or streetlights to alert drivers of the potential danger. Only a few plastic barriers have been placed around the pole, raising fears that both residents and tourists traveling through the area are at significant risk of accidents. Local residents are now urgently calling on the relevant authorities to investigate and resolve the situation before any harm occurs. Just to prolong the agony, let me add to this topic: The two issues with credit card usage Kevin is a) the fact that you're using credit rather than capital or cash, and, b) whether or not the money you use in your home country to pay the credit card bill is income or savings. Point a) above needs to be set aside because the debate is circular and no two people agree. A credit card transaction is credit but if it's a cash advance it's not. And since it's revolving credit it's unlike a specific credit agreement to buy something specific. If you can get around point a), AND you use none assessable savings in your home country to pay your credit card bill, the argument in favour of a credit card transaction NOT being assessable to tax here, is pretty strong....I think. Ultimately however it will come down to point b) as the main issue, are you using a credit card to skirt around using a debit card which is seen as assessable income (subject to the funds not being savings). -
