Bike modifications and impact on first class insurance

Featured Replies

I am trying to get first class insurance on a Honda CRF250 which has some modifications (brake levers, exhaust, fuel controller, graphics etc).

The insurer has told me that modifications need to be logged in the green book, and that modifications are 'illegal' unless logged as such (I believe this is true). However even if I had a day spare to be passed from person to person at the DLT then I expect the outcome would be 'Mai dai! Mai dai!', especially since the exhaust is not Honda approved.

How have people on here managed to get insurance with modified bikes? Or is it just done in the hope that the insurer will pay out in the event of an accident regardless of undeclared modifications?

Thanks in advance for any advice.
