Cambodia to deactivate unregisters SIMs by 1 November

Featured Replies

The Telecommunication Regulator of Cambodia has decided that all unregistered SIM cards in Cambodia will be deactivated by 1 November. The government says this initiative is designed to reduce criminal activity and protect national security, The Cambodia Daily reports. Service providers are required to alert those with unregistered SIM cards "seven times within seven days", the regulator said. If no action is taken, "there must be a full suspension" by 1 November, the regulator added. The SIM deactivation measure could affect nearly 10 percent of Cambodia's SIM cards, or nearly 2 million phone users that have not registered their SIM cards yet.
