Drones, invasion of privacy!,

A few days ago I'm inside my house and all of a sudden I hear a buzz that sounds like a big beehive.  I look out and over my swimming pool is a drone just hovering 3 metres above my pool.  Either the guy was admiring my house, or casing it to see if anything inside is worth stealing.  I picked up some rocks and started throwing them and almost downed the POS before it flew away.  I followed it for a while and it went a good 1km back to it's master.

Anyone ever had a drone and it's idiot pilot decide that invading your privacy and scoping out your house was all in good fun?

You will have to get one of the EMP guns they have made for this purpose.

Personally I think drones are great, but obviously some people will find a way to abuse the tech.

Seems there are two main deterrents.  Either jam the frequencies used, or get a "net gun" that looks like a bazooka launcher that shoots a net at the offender.  Both were quite costly.  I could just see bringing in either one of these and getting it by customs...................

the Dutch authorities are training falcons to take on unwanted drones that pose a threat, for example near airports

Why do you think you have a right to privacy?

There are already spy satellites overhead which produce amazingly detailed pictures of the ground below.  Are you going to try and take them out, too?

Grow up, and stop doing things in public you're ashamed of and don't want to be seen.

The question of course is what is considered public. Most of us consider our backyards to be private property but we never had to consider the airspace before.

So what about when people tell all and publish all their private lives and activities on facebook and then there is Google Street View seeking us out and no one complains about that.

What`s the difference between that and being spied on by drones?

True enough... Lots of people are proud of their online persona, want 5,000 facebook friends and post as many photos of themselves to all social media as possible. And many do not. Many do not use their real names, fake where they live or are from, never post real photos of themselves, and etc. Like me. No one really needs to know who I am, or where I actually live, the names and addresses of my family members, my email address or phone number, or any of that stuff. It's a matter of choice. A drone flying over my home, taking photos of myself, and etc., are things I could get pretty angry about. And if you don't want to be in google street view (lots of people don't), you don't have to be.

True story.

Some years ago I was dating a girl in England who worked at a ladies clothing store. She told me that to catch shoplifters in the act the store had installed hidden cameras in the fitting rooms, toilets and elevators.

This has been going on for years even before the days of CCT. Nowadays these images and videos can end up anyway on the Internet, and unsuspecting victims can even end up on porn voyeur sites. It’s the same in gym changing rooms, swimming pool changing rooms and at many public places. This is now common practice, we never knows who is watching us or where.

yes we definitely have a right to privacy indeed. There are still some countries, at least in Europe, where "civil rights" apply and people r not just a puppets or androids. those satellites can not be accessed by everyone, where as drones have no limits - until the first terror attacks happen after which there will be very strict rules set on drones of all kind

So you don't have a problem with people standing outside your house staring  in the windows watching your family?

Get used to the new reality. I'm waiting for the day when a terrorist attempts to collide one with a commercial airliner, or even load it up with explosives and fly close to one before detonating

You aren't kidding the terrorist uses would be endless

I don't put my info on Facebook, The google camera is showing a street full of random people, I'm relatively sure that no one is using a satellite to scope out my property, The drone is inside my property looking at my property and or my family, possibly casing for future crimes.   Really a big difference I think.

I'm a drone / Quadcopter pilot in the UK and Thailand and if you follow the guildlines that originally came from the CAA and carry a copy "I had a Thai friend translate from English to Thai' with you while flying you shouldn't have any problems.

General guidelines are available online with a basic GOOGLE search.

Rule of thumb is DON"T make people feel uncomfortable or scared while flying and more so when you are taking video or photos.

Stay at least 5 Klm from any civilian  or military airspace.

Takeoff and land from land you have permission to use.

Always get permission to fly over, record video and take photos of places that might cause alarm or offence to others . . . Eg. Temples, private areas of interest and private homes Etc.

You can't use the video or photos for financial reward or you'll need a professional licence and a work permit.

Stay away from down town Bangkok Etc. That always goes wrong in so many ways !

Unless it has changed recently any airspace up to 30 metres over your home Etc. Is classed as your airspace and anything over 30 metres is controlled by the CAA Etc.

I personally would "Remove" a drone out of the sky in my private airspace that I'd not given permission to be there ! !

Buy a drone of your own. Follow the drone with your drone back to its master. Get the number plate of his vehicle. Report him to the police for trespassing and stalking. Problem solved.

Problem not solved.  It would merely open the bidding.

So sorry that I offended you. I just wanted to see what you were having for breakfast.

I promise not to invade your space again.

PS. I'm glad your rock throwing aim is not very good.

Absolutely, it is trespass.

If I had one hovering a few feet above my pool I would either get the wrist rocket (catapult) or pool skimming net out to try and down it. Who knows what sort of geek or odd person is at the other end. If I had kids I would be even more concerned.
