TRANG: -- Police in Trang in the south of Thailand have laid two sets of charges in the shooting of a six year old boy on Friday.

The boy - named Starlet - was shot by the 13 year old who went to play at his house in the Huay Yort area, reports Sanook.

Phuwanat Songserm - Starlet's father has been charged with having an unlicensed weapon in the house - a rifle.

The 13 year old's grandparents Yi and Khreuawan Hoklao said they would not have allowed him to go and play at the other house if they had known that a rifle was kept within reach.

They said that nine children lived at the other house that was a ramshackle old property.

Suchada Phobamrung, the sis year old's distraught mother cannot go home to face the scene of her son's killing and is demanding that the family of the 13 year old apologise to the corpse of her son.

Police who have charged the 13 year old with the killing will interview him today in the presence of family members and welfare agencies.

how long before the thai authorities actually do something about all the guns that are on the streets and in houses, cars etc. Some idiot waving and shooting a gun at another car because he flashed his lights at him and now this, too many idiots have access to guns, its way past being about face and the size of their idiot owners dicks, they need to start locking up the owners/handlers of these weapons. When I was in the army our neighbours daughter(also 6) was shot by her brother, their idiot father, an MP, had left a loaded rifle in his bedroom and they found it and were playing with it when it went off killing her, there is no excuse for stupidity.  The only way they can control this is to start handing our massive fines and jail time to these people, responsibility is sadly lacking here so they have to start making it hit the offenders extremely hard and stop playing patsy with them, there are far too many deaths caused by idiots with guns they shouldnt have.

Safety first. Land of hollow slogans, all talk no action. The village i cross on my daily biking has banners asking the villagers to stop shooting in the air. All males i know there have a gun. Each and every single one. I come from a country where only cops, soldiers and criminals have guns. Hunters used to have guns too but theres nothing to hunt left here unless the breed and then release the poor animals. I dont like guns...

Yes correct.........'all talk no action'.........

In a country where most men are thinner skinned than a rice pudding,it never ends well.......

This article was about the accidental shooting of a young boy by another boy.

That rifle really puts the "long" in long gun.

It would be taller than a 13-year-old unless the kid was Danish.

i think that rifle belongs to Captain Blight ....He must of lost it on his travels to england:post-4641-1156694572:

Well, hopefully now not long before i am out of here,, off to pastures new and putting this craphole behind me.

It is heartbreaking to read something like this, a 6 year old boy dying at the hands of a 13 year old. I read about a person driving along the motorway a few days ago and shooting at a pick up truck. The police got the license plate and know who the owner is and have asked them to come in! Can you imagine "hello Sir / Madam, we believe you may have opened fire on a public hi way today, would you mind coming in to the station so we can clear this up, thank you so much". Unbelieveable.

There are many things to be said about the Philippines at the moment, love him or hate him the new President is shaking the whole country up with a ruthless and zero tolerance policy on corruption, drugs and crime in general.

Something Thailand is in desperate need of is someone in power to see these things, realise how terrible the situation is and plow, full on into the issue with a zero tolerance policy. Have a gun, go to jail, shoot someone, life in prison, drug dealer, life in prison etc, etc,,,

฿250 fine, (underage discount), wai, done...

Its appalling and not a laughing matter. All thais in my area also have guns. Its a topsy turvy society. Why government employees need easy access to guns is completely backwards. All people i know that dont make there own, buy modified bbs or even real online buy them from government employess and get a licenses to match no questions asked really. Its very wrong to the point that its stupid not to atleast have guns at the home if you really sit back and think. Its all to easy to obtain guns, laws are strict but never enforced unless necessary. My wife went to buy a gun and was told because of the change of mayor she wouldnt get a license for another 6months so was told to allow her name to be put on a house register in another town to be able to obtain it faster and for a price. Pretty bad if you ask me. Why bother going the legal route for protection when thats questionble.

13 YO using a RIFLE? He must be a big boy then.Parents must be charged not the kid.?

If you ever get the desire to read the actual article it states the 13-year old was visiting another person's house and it had this gun in it. The 13-year old boys parents had nothing to do with it.

The parents who did have the rifle loaded and accessable to children just had their 6-year old killed--which seems punishment enough. Hard to send a father to jail who just lost his child due to his own negligence.

You mean Lieutenant Fletcher Christian took it away from him and left it in thailand? Anything is possible in Thailand. Talking about Buddha and start shooting. Just like in my country religious people talk about God and they wenking all the times. Not right men, not right.

It is nearly impossible to control possession of illegal firearms.

High fines, long prison sentences, may help a tiny bit, but only for a short time.

The police, anywhere in the world, is completely powerless in this.

Only results come from accidently finding guns, rapping, checks, but hardly ever detective work in finding arms.

The result of tighter laws will mean legal owners get more control.

Useless and costing many man hours.

Thailand specific response from me...but roadside checkpoints and random searches appear to be somewhat effective in finding illegal firearms.
