Extending Visa if you're already overstaying 5 days

Featured Replies

Hello,

is it possible to extend your Visa at the immigration if you're already overstaying for 5 days? I totally forgot about  to leave the country after 30 days. I'm German citizen in case it matter.

Thanks for the help.

You cannot extend a visa that has expired,  you are currently on overstay, the fine for overstay is B500 per day.  You can pay the overstay fine in cash at the airport when you exit the country.

Maybe. As long as you haven't already extended your initial stay there is still a chance. You would need to pay 5 days overstay (2,500 baht) plus the 1,900 baht extension fee.

However, before you step foot in an immigration office you should call them and ask if they will accept a late application as they have the right to arrest you and send you through the deportation process.

If the overstay is a week or more I would head to the nearest border and forget the extension.

see the new rules as they are posted on the internet  lately. You can see the overstay rules directly on the website

http://www.immigration.go.th/

Summary

more then 90 days banned for one year

every day over say 500 THB

So if I was you go tomorrow to immigration office  and surrender yourselfs is always the best option

as you say, you are within the week and compared with the 90 days you have a grease period of one week that Immigration is not doing so

so hopefully you only have to pay the fine and get a warning

when you click on more information on the website  http://www.immigration.go.th/

you see the new page about the overstay and when you look under Item 4

  1. If you have already overstayed beyond your permitted date before the order’s enforced date (20 March 2016), you may surrender to the authorities at the Immigration Checkpoint (land border, seaport, and airport). You must pay a fine of 500/day, but not exceeding 20,000 baht before you are allowed to leave the Kingdom of Thailand.

The last answer should take into account which office you go to. Some may be more 'overstay friendly' than others.

I would buy a ticket out and go.

Coming back I would advise getting a visa and have 20,000 plus bookings plus ticket out.

Another 30 day on entry might not be easy.

Just goto immigration. However it's at the officer descretion if he allows you to extend backwards. I did this a couple of times and after paying the overstay, they stamped an extension starting at the day the visa expired. Even one time they started on the day I applied for the extension.

Once = understandable

"a couple of times" = total disregard for the law

I agree..going to immigration will lead you only to pay the fine for the overstay. You have to go to the overstay desk first. After that you can apply for your extension.

Going to immigration may lead to IDC if the guy in charge feels like it. Why take the chance.

Get a ticket and leave.

Sort out a visa before you return. Coming straight back with an overstay stamp and asking for another 30 days visa exempt is also taking a chance.

You also right:as i told in the first comment, the best will be a border run:5 days overstay is not such a pain.In the second one,as later i remember that there is an overstay desk at every immigration, for just 5 days should be not a problem to pay the fine and get the extension. If i have to decide i will leave the country.
