BANGKOK: -- Police have arrested a 33 year old Kanchanaburi man who was stealing tourists' mobile phones at Suvarnabhumi airport.

Noppadon  Wijitthamrong was arrested on Tuesday on the first floor at exit number 7. He was in possession of a Vivo 728 phone that had been stolen from a Thai tourist who was charging it earlier, reports Thairath

The man was apprehended using CCTV surveillance.

Noppadon said that he had no job and needed money for drugs. He admitted that this was the third time he had stolen a phone at the airport.

He was charged with theft at the airport that carried a one to five year jail term or a fine between 2,000 and 10,000 baht.

So a thief faces jail. Wow. I wonder where BIB came up with that idea? Watching old CSI videos or somethin'?

Lock him up for being stupid, he could have stolen a better quality phone not a discounted bit of junk from India

Strange, his face was all over the Television news this morning without any blurring, but when it comes to news sites and papers they have to blur the face according directive from Prayuth, What am I missing?

I think if are going to quote brand names, at least get the dodgy model right, it's the "Galaxy note 7"that is the problem phone, there millions of galaxy phones out there, that have had problems at all.

Some things are too hot to touch

The human mind can only stand so much

You can't win with a losing phone.

Sorry Bob.

the value for a stolen mobil phone cannot be much as there are more mobile phones than there are people already.  Not sure who is the greater risk to society, a drug head or a mobile phone thief, doubt if either is counted as unemployed so the employed numbers are given a boost. If he gets jail; time, he should be able to get new ideas from residents, on generating a income without working.

But run over a policeman  whilst speeding and maybe also on drugs and   ...

2000b fine or 5 years in jail...he will choose the fine when is asked to come in...

They didn't.   But they did catch a habitual thief for which they deserve a pat on the back as opposed to your derision.

This crossed my mind as well. It seems the jail terms are way over the top in Thailand and the fines are too little. A month in the can and a 20,000 Baht would be more realistic I would think. Even one year for phone theft is way too much.
