Royal Thai Police honors socially-devoted figures

BANGKOK, 13 October 2016 (NNT) - The Royal Thai Police has held a ceremony to honor individuals that have demonstrated exceptional devotion to Thai society, on the occasion of National Police Day on October 13th.

Commissioner General of the Royal Thai Police Pol Gen Chakthip Chaijinda has conferred accolades on 119 civilians and police officers, including philanthropists, good Samaritans, and drug crime busters for performing out their duties admirably and their significant contributions to society. The Royal Thai Police earlier bestowed honors on 488 persons.

During his National Police Day speech, Pol Gen Chakthip emphasized the police's commitment to society and to their duty to help people and implement government policy to uphold the public's peace and happiness.

Pol Gen Chakthip and Chairman of the Police Wives Association Bussaba Chaijinda also visited wounded police officers at Bangkok's Police General Hospital. Pol Sgt Maj Kanchanapong Chedej had been wounded in an encounter with a passport forgery gang and Pol Cpl Charin Chuaymuang was injured from an emergency helicopter landing in Yala province in August.

The National Police Chief then held a press conference announcing the Police Hospital 4.0 development plan. He presided over an award ceremony for outstanding researchers and academics, as well as taking part in other activities in celebration of National Police Day.

Wonder if included was the policeman who got the 10000 baht for refusing a bribe last year.

Good Samaritan's are rare in Thailand. Don't get me wrong, Thai's are very helpful and will always help out when they can except if your involved in a traffic accident. Then rather than stem the bleeding and stop the traffic, they usually gather around the roadside, or on top of foot bridges, or slow down and stare out of their air conditioned cars, or shout down the road to their friends "Come look, accident".
How do I know?
Seen it happen many times. I live near a busy dangerous road and about once a month there is an accident. Blood and gore seems to fascinate the Thai's. Very few actually go in and help the victim. I did once and got told off by the missus for doing so. "You could be blamed" she said and made to pay the hospital fees.
Nearly everyday I risk my life traveling on the dangerous road, thinking if I fall off my motorbike, whether it's a broken leg or a deep cut, it's up to me to move out of the way of traffic and take myself to the nearest hospital. I also carry a 1,000 baht in a plastic sleeve to give to someone to help me get to hospital. Then you need to have a sterdy lock to lock the motorbike to a lamppost, which I also have. Of course don't forget your mobile phone.

Never actually looked upon the police farce as all that helpful.  They were mostly to be avoided, especially when drinking.  Given that their salaries are a pittance is probably the main problem with their performance.

Are the standards for exceptional civic duty now under the domain of the RTP?

How ironical.
