Idc Center At Suan Plu Road

This is a total stab in the dark but does anyone have a postal address for the IDC center in Bangkok.

Basically a friend of ours is being held for overstaying and since we are no longer in Bangkok there is very little we can do face to face. We seemed to be getting all sorts of information about what money needs to be paid out etc from various people accessing his e-mail. He is def in the center as I spoke to his landlord in bangkok who I know very well but the language barrier is proving difficult!!

He is a Ghanian who was arrested at the border with Cambodia for overstaying. Now been transported back to Bangkok with intention of being deported to Ghana. No Ghana embassy in Bangkok to contact, head pickled and hoping someone had an address or any info on the IDC. The post seemed to get to Bang Wang ok for other folk so hope this will work.

many many thanks for any information you have....however small!!!

sorry to hear about your friend caledonia, i am very curious of how long his overstay was and the type of visa he had.

unfortunately, many believe "if i make it to the border it's just 200 baht a day, no problem"...again, it is up to the immigration officer as your post verifies.

Thanks for that information folks.

Huski I think this has been a long timing coming in our friends case, he has been in Bangkok for years and I have heard mixed stories about what exactly happened. One is that he just had overstayed (I am guessing for quite a while cos I don't remember him going to renew his visa for ages). As he was on a Ghanian passport it is not a case of just renewing at the border anyway!!

The other story I have heard is that he was travelling on a fake passport. Now I don't think he would be that stupid so whether the Thai authorites are jsut accusing him of that or whether he just lost his marbles and did indeed travel on a fake passport I don't know.

This ofcourse leads to the problem that if he was on a fake passport he is in all kinds of sh*t :o and I don't have a clue what name they will be holding him under!!! Oh Thailand is great place til crap like this happens.

I see Bang Wang now have prisoner lists on the internet (!!!) but I don't think the IDC will have the same!!!

oh dear

Anyway thanks again for the info and I think his story is pretty unique so the 200 baht a day over stayers don't need to panic just yet!!!! :D

Sorry to keep harping on here, but when you say 20,000 fine surely that would not be the case if it was indeed a fake passport?

Surely that would lead to criminal charges? Or are they more concerned with getting you up and out of there?

We have been getting told 70,000 Baht but after initally being told 20,000 plus airfare I am begining to think the folk taking care of things are chancers!!

Thanks

using a fake passport is about 300k baht bail and then facing up to 10 years in prison...yes, a criminal offense.

of course when the thai legal system is done with you, then you are blacklisted

  • 1 month later...

hmmm well maybe the Thai Authorities just make it up as they go along......my friend did use a fake passport (!!!!) however he is now in his home country.....no court case, no criminal charges, no fine.......he was held until his friends raised a few standard fees (nothing like 300,000 baht!!) and his airfare out and sorted out a travel doc home. All done and dusted in 2 months....not the best solution as he was held all this time but a lot better than the majority of us hoped for!!!

Interesting :o

Ghana has no Embassy or Consular mission in Bangkok, as far as I know, so it can be hard for the Thai Immigration Bureau to get a quality confirmation of his passport.

Deportation with current passport to Ghana home country saves them a lot of hassle, maybe. The Ghanian Immigration at home might have a closer look at his documents when arriving home port.

Just my 2 baht.

He is a lucky guy to get out of it lightly here. He is yet to find out what his homeland people will do about his sins.
