webfact Posted October 18, 2016 Posted October 18, 2016 Flying from Suvarnabhumi Airport? - Leave plenty of time due to increased security measures Picture: Daily News BANGKOK: -- The Suvarnabhumi Airport Authority warned passengers on Monday to allow extra time when coming to the airport in the next couple of weeks. This is because of increased security measures introduced in the wake of reports of a bomb threat targeting unspecified locations in Bangkok. Soldiers and police are checking all vehicles entering and exiting the airport so the authorities have warned passengers to allow more time than usual so as not to miss flights. Further information can be obtained by calling 1722 on a 24 hour hotline. Source: Daily News -- © Copyright Thai Visa News 2016-10-18
kannot Posted October 18, 2016 Posted October 18, 2016 checking in their usual "thorough" way no doubt
mike324 Posted October 18, 2016 Posted October 18, 2016 I was at Central the other day, the security guards were scanning the trunk of cars with a hand held metal detector

thaibeachlovers Posted October 18, 2016 Posted October 18, 2016 That's OK then. I thought it was when passing security when I saw the headline. I'll be transitting so not a problem then.
londonthai Posted October 18, 2016 Posted October 18, 2016 so now checking exiting cars invreases airport's security
Psimbo Posted October 18, 2016 Posted October 18, 2016 Officials step up security - Thaigeezers in an uproar! Officials DON'T step up security and something happens- Thaigeezers in an uproar!

They did a good job except that I objected to the security guard near the x-ray machine patting my body down. Is he/her allowed to touch me physically as in pat my stomach or other parts of my body with their hands. They have some magic hand held wand which I would of though sufficient to check my body without running their grubby hands over me and touching me. Was I right to object?

baboon Posted October 18, 2016 Posted October 18, 2016 I was there today to meet my Ma. Didn't notice any difference, to be honest, nor at Don Mueang. By God DM was quiet, though...
geriatrickid Posted October 19, 2016 Posted October 19, 2016 Oh please. Must people always be so cynical? The people are trying to prevent a tragedy. It is certainly better than doing nothing. I ask that those who are most critical to please consider the fact that fi a bomb goes off, it will most likely be one of these security guards who will be maimed or killed. if there is an attempted attack, it will be Thai security agents who will be putting their lives in harms way. I do hope nothing happens. I've seen too many wounded, maimed and murdered people to wish this on anyone.

Yes, some are doing their jobs; others are looking for an opportunity to confiscate something to sell on eBay.
Chicog Posted October 19, 2016 Posted October 19, 2016 Yes, I considered the "thorough check" of all inbound passengers' baggage last week to be a reasonable precaution, until I saw the bint sat at the screen pissing about with Line or Candy Crush and paying no attention whatsoever.

And they arrested the Erawan shrine-bomber and still never go after the rest of the team, i don't hear anything about it.
Skeptic7 Posted October 19, 2016 Posted October 19, 2016 FYI...Just flew out yesterday morn and there was NO extra security in place and no delays. It was no different than it's been every other time...and I'm in and out of Suvarnabhumi ALOT.
Upnotover Posted October 19, 2016 Posted October 19, 2016 They were checking incoming cars for years, maybe they just re-started that. The trick is to disguise your bomb as a suitcase, they will never spot that. They are looking for the obvious.....

Was I right to object? no, you were not right to object, as no matal objects, like plastic knife or gun, can't be detected by a wand. That's why they have introduced also full body scanners. Also they they have a room to strip you down.
