TV stations given greater freedom during mourning period
By   THE NATION

BANGKOK: -- MEDIA bodies have revised their guidelines for advertising and content distribution to ease business conditions during the 30-day national mourning period.

After a meeting yesterday with free-to-air television operators, the broadcasting committee of the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission decided to grant them greater freedom to show prime-time dramas for children and families and also paid commercials.

However, they must strictly abide by the guidelines for TV stations during the mourning period.

True Visions never had and still don't have a clue.  They've shut off all of their music stations, but bars are open and can play music as it's at low volume.

All the radio stations are still missing too.

Most movies, sport, documentaries and infos channels back to normal programming even the Thai documentaries channel EXPWILD, EXPLIFE and EXPSCI but not TV5 (french language) according some french friends of mine. I wonder why.

This caveat at the end of the OP appears to be an oxymoron, as it clearly negates any concessions to which the main article refers.  The whole thing is therefore pointless and hot air, as usual.  Just sayin'.

Cheers, UW.

True Visions still "arranging" a mourning schedule, somewhat arbitrary it seems. HBO is almost black and white when it is actually available. BBC drops out evry second time whenever Thailand is mentioned. Of course Fashion TV still has 24/7 near naked models in glorious technicolour.

Prime time dramas for children and families, does this include soaps ?

Given the content of most soaps how can they comply with the guidelines for programmes during the mourning period.

Wifebeating and rape are fine as long as they are in black-and-white. Then the viewer will understand they are not meant to be role models.... oh wait a min...

Color is a joyous thing. Fade to B&W to show respect.

Just how do they decide that, for example, Fox Channel is ok but AXN / BBC Entertainment isn't as many of the programmes are very similar in content.

TRUE's radio channels are all off possibly because there's too much music but a lot of it is light listening.

It all seems so arbitrary but that's very much in line with the usual decision making process and look at the amount of about turns since Friday 14th.
