Has anyone had any luck applying for a multiple entry tourist visa in a country other than their home country or are they pretty strict about that?

If so, any lenient consulates in/around Asia? I would like to not have to go home every six months....

THANK YOU!

Depends on your nationaly and where home is.

Unless you are a citizen or legal resident of one of the 'Asian' countries you will not be able to get a METV.

I am Canadian thus a far trip every 6 months and looking for an alternative.

Can EU passport holders apply anywhere in the EU or only the issuing country? Any idea if they are more lenient to third country applicants in the EU?

Once again it depends. France(Paris) would, for example, be unlikely to oblige. You should contact the Embassies/Consulates direct to enquire.

I believe some have had success applying in Australia.

If you are wishing to stay/live in Thailand long term there are no easy options unless you are working legally, are married to a Thai person or are over the age of 50

Hi, if you do the final entry a day before your METV expires you will get stamped into Thailand for 60 days which could be extended for another 30 days at a local immigration office for 1900 baht. This would make the METV good for almost 9 months.

You could then get a SETV at a local location in Asia such as Penang or Vientiane that would give you a futher 60 days which also could extended for another 30 days at a local immigration office.

This would give you almost a year before you had to return to Canada.

Hope that helps

The nearest place where you might get one is in Australia. The requirements there do not state you have to a resident there to a apply. There have been reports of non Australianes getting the visa there.

Can confirm Australia, but only Brisbane as I've spoken to the QLD Thai consular general about it. For memory, the only condition was that you were in Australia on a visa to begin with vs having to be a permanent resident or citizen. Pretty sure he mentioned Perth and maybe Melbourne would do it, but Sydney and Canberra would not.
