PM gives speech for UN Day

  

BANGKOK, 24 October 2016 (NNT) – The Prime Minister has affirmed Thailand’s key role in the United Nations over the past 70 years in a speech broadcast via Radio Thailand. 

Speaking this morning on the occasion of United Nations Day, Prime Minister Gen Prayuth Chan-ocha stated Thailand’s work within the UN has been acknowledged by international organizations as well as fellow member states. He said that over its 70 years as part of the community, Thailand has given input and shared in problem solving, contributing to the UN’s development and the progress of its member countries. 

He went on to say that 2016 has proven to be a year of major change for the UN, as it was the first year for many pivotal global treaties, all of which Thailand made sure to play a strong role in actuating. For the Kingdom, this year was especially crucial, as it was the first year of Thailand’s chairmanship of the Group of 77 Developing Nations and the first time its leader took part in the UN Summit in New York of the United States. He noted his attendance of the 71st summit was important as it allowed him to present the UN with His Majesty the late King Bhumipol Adulyadej’s Sufficiency Economy Philosophy. 

The Secretary-General of the UN, at a meeting on October 13, led representatives from 193 nations in observing a moment of silence in honor of His Majesty the late King. Countries such as Timor-Leste, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Afghanistan, Zimbabwe and Nicaragua also took the opportunity to announce their adoption of the late King’s sufficiency philosophy. 

The PM concluded his address by expressing appreciation towards the work of outgoing UN Secretary-General Ban Ki Moon and welcomed his successor Antonio Gutierrez, whom he said brought enough experience to surely drive the United Nations towards its goals of ensuring peace, prosperity and stability to the world. He assured Thailand will continue to work with the UN as a responsible member for the benefit all of humanity.

I think this speech fell on deaf ears. Prayuth won't get respect as a leader until he gets elected by the majority of the people of the nation. He wasn't chosen to be there by the Thai people.  As it is now, he fits in with other speaker like Robert Mugabe and Kim Jung-un. They too can speak at the UN but are mostly put on 'Ignore' by most leaders of the world.

Those two guys still won by elections though....not that elections mean much there.

He loves to pontificate on behalf of those who did not elect him.   Too bad he himself only offers blustering and decisiveness.  He is just tolerated by others who have been elected through universal suffrage and endured by the average Thai.

How so? Trying hard but just can't remember of much like that ...

Thailand's key role etc and this coming from a man who makes it clear he has no regard for foreigners.

In something like 70 years of being with the UN one would think by now that instead of babbling B/S the message on people trafficking , wild life poaching , ivory trade , human rights abuse, migration  and labour laws would have hit home and  been addressed 50 years ago , so maybe that myth could be right,  Thailand is full of slow learners ..................................................

Did he include the immortal words,  'The UN is not my father'?

I honestly think he has forgotten the fact he was not elected, and thinks he has done such splendid work on behalf of Thailand that he is absolved from that little fact, but the rest of the worlds leaders, who have come up the hard way as you have mentioned, would be well aware how he got where he is, and if they hear of his gold plated amnesty past, present, and future, absolving him and his cronies of all blame if the excrement hits the fan, they will be filled full of wonderment and jealousy, i'm sure!

They are just jealous. Every politician would like their own personal fiefdom where one can be all things to all people. Politicians wish to make serfs of us all. Our leader just has a head start. 

And UN delegates have unforgettable memories of his speech :)
